Avoid - 1 star is far too generous

After waiting over an hour we were rushed through the process and told that our options were €800 deposit or €60 for insurance. After being told that taking the insurance option would also entitle us to "take it full, Return in empty" we opted for this and were given some keys and sent on our way. We located the clapped out old Corsa we'd been given, loaded up our stuff and left.

I could look past the lack of customer care, and even past the filthy car that we'd been provided with but on third day of our holiday we were travelling along a section of road where the Police were stopping and checking every car. Naturally we pulled over and expected a quick check of details before being let on our way. Unfortunately, due to shambolic way in which Maresol seem to do business, our car was more than a year past it's ITV.
The ITV is the Spanish equivalent of the MOT and Road Tax. It is illegal to be on the road without a valid ITV and means that our car had not been certified as roadworthy for 2 years. We were given a €200 fine (for Marbesol luckily) and the Police officer, who was very helpful explained that the car shouldn't be used as it was potentially dangerous. Not to mention the fact that the 'insurance' we payed for was now void.

We felt that Marbesol had ruined wasted enough of our time and I couldn't face another hour wait to get a new car from them. With other days out planned we decided to leave the car alone until the end of the week and deal with in when we returned the car.

The time came to return the car and we were greeted by a vile attitude from the lady at Marbesol. She snatched the ticket from us (apparently unsurprised by the fine) and started to go through the car. She then claimed that we would be charged for the petrol missing form the tank (despite being told we should "take it full, return it empty") The fact that we had been given an unroadworthy car seemed far less important to her than the missing fuel so we decided to fill up the small amount we'd used purely so we could begin to discuss the real issue at hand. Unfortunately she (and everyone else at Marbesol) seemed completely uninterested in hearing our complaint, and they certainly weren't going to offer an apology or accept responsibility.
Finally, after much nagging, we were given the managers email address and told to direct our complaint there. When we asked for a copy of the fine so we could take it further we were told that the photocopier was "broken", despite the fact we could all see another employee using it!

Our trip back to the Airport was terrible too, the shuttle bus driver decided it was fine to fly down the road with his music blaring whilst leaning out of the window to have a chat with his mate who was driving another shuttle bus.

Overall the whole experience was an unpleasant one, from the moment we got there we were ignored, lied to and left to figure things out for ourselves. This Review goes beyond bad customer service and hidden charges though, the blatant disregard for the safety of their customers is shocking and worthy of the whole shoddy outfit being shut down.

In a word. AVOID!
