“Had to buy additional insurance”

★★★☆☆

written by McCullough81 on 28/04/2014

A couple of days before my trip, I recieved an email urging me to buy more and save, but i ignored it because I had ALREADY purchased was comprehensive insurance. Upon arrival, I was informed that I should buy additional insurance, which was sneaky and unpleasant. The whole thing was expensive and more insurance set me back another £60. Would have been good to know in advance.

Hi there

We very sorry to learn you have had problems the time of collection.

All prices are displayed at the time of booking and all insurance charges are shown in the supplier's T&Cs which have to be ticked as read and understood before a car can be booked.

In the supplier T&Cs is clearly shows customers how much the excess on the car hire insurance will be at the time of collection. This can not be displayed in the car hire price as every local supplier will have different excess charges depending on their own insurance company, which is why it is always shown in the T&Cs and has to be read and agreed before a booking can be completed

We sell a product on our site called Excess Protection, which will protect against the excess on a car hire should you have an accident at the time of rental. You have to still pay a deposit to the supplier at the time of collection to cover the excess and they give you this back if the car is returned undamaged, should the car be damaged however, the supplier keeps this deposit and you claim it back from the insurer when you return from your trip.

If a customer does not purchase this at the time of booking the car rental supplier will sell you this at the time of pick up.

Customers are able to refuse to purchase this excess cover with some suppliers however some suppliers will insist that this policy is purchased it is down to individual suppliers what their policy is on this before a car can be taken as they need to make sure that their own assets are covered. With excess on car hire insurance ranging from between £600 - £2000 pounds it as a big risk to not have the excess protected.

We show information on our site about this policy and what do to at the time of collection should you purchase the policy.

We do hope this helps clarify this for you. Once again, we are very sorry you experienced problems with this policy and do that this does not affect your decision to book your future car hire with us.

Kind regards
Customer support
