I was dealing with a perfectly nice motor home hire company. Chatty, informative and friendly. I won't name them here lest they get tarred by the same brush. As soon as I agreed to pay my £99 down payment I was handed off to HireBookingCentre.com
In there first email they were very keen (ie right at the bottom of the email) to draw my attention to charges I might incur and that I could not insure myself against. I will admit that these conditions were available to me earlier but you have to go hunting a bit.
Dints, Scuffs, Scratches and Scrapes would be charged at £45 each.
A crack to a window £349 !
Damage to a wing mirror £349 !
£75 per recording of doing more than 75 mph (the vehicle is not limited - why not if they are looking to protect it as they say they are)
£2 per litre + £45 if there is any less fuel in it when you drop it off.
Every knife fork or spoon missing - £3 each
And the list goes on.
How on earth could you prove in a 7m long motorhome what was there already or not? Video it all in microscopic detail? How can they charge £45 for a "Scuff" when I doubt they fix the issue before the next errr customer?
I was not comfortable putting that much cash at risk so immediately asked to cancel it and get a refund.
I was immediately told that there was a £25 cancellation fee that had not been indicated anywhere before. I queried this, asked for my £99 to be returned and it all went silent. Silent except for the reminders that I had not sent them my documents to complete the booking etc. Apparently I was trapped in the process. Still am after a week.

Bottom line I hope nobody decides against hiring a mobile home as it looked fabulous fun. Just pray you don't go to anyone who hands the financials off to HireBookingCentre. Get insurance under your control so at least they would have to face down an insurance company rather than just charge your card merrily to poverty! Make sure the proof of damage is down to them rather than at their will. Read the small print !

I hope this helps others considering a motor home holiday as I was.
