I rented a vehicle at Pittsburgh International Airport on Dec 20, 2014 at. 9 pm .and my nightmare began that ruined my holiday trip home to see my family. My son also rented a vehicle from Hertz that same evening. Upon arrival to the counter my son got his car and expected to have a car seat, which he paid to rent. Three car seats were left in the garage outside in plastic bags which was 28 degrees and freezing. None of the three car seats fit- all too small and they were told nothing could be done. The baby had scratch marks the entire week from the tightness. That was the least of our problems with Hertz.
The attendant at the rental counter told us to go to space F-15 and get our car. It was a keyless start. We drove to our hotel only to find we had the wrong car- someone left the FOB in it . We were told not to drive the car on Sunday as it could be reported stolen and Hertz would not be responsible. Hertz told us to drive the car to the nearest Hertz on Monday and change the paperwork so we had it for the right car. We drove 3O miles to the Charleroi PA Hertz who said we would need to come back at the end of the day to get the paperwork.Upon return they said the district manager would not allow them to do this and that we must drive the car back to the airport that night because the car could have been reported stolen. We drove another 30 miles back to the airport that night at 10 pm and exchanged cars for the right one. We drove it back to a relatives house and the car battery was dead. Hertz called AAA who came out and said someone stole his jumper cables, the battery was bad and he would have to tow it back to the airport.At that point we tried to cancel our rental which to this day 7 days later we can not get confirmation it was closed out. You can check my phone records and see that I have made over 40 calls to Hertz in 7 days with no resolution. They told me to come back at the end of the trip and speak to the airport Hertz manager. My holidays were ruined and I never drove the rental except to the airport or Hertz dealers as requested . I requested a full refund and was told the car still does not show as being returned. I returned to the airport Dec. 28th to assure the car was returned when it was towed. The manager said I should contact Hertz billing, use his name and get a full refund. It was prepaid for the whole week plus the gas. I did as he said and got a response that said since it was prepaid they could issue no refund, not even the gas which we never used. As a director of a company I will never use Hertz or refer any business there again. I have used many other rental agencies with no problem. Only used this one so we could help our son with his baby. He too will never use this agency again.
