we booked and paid up front for two vehicles in the USA. This was our biggest mistake because once they have your money you are screwed.after waiting in a 20 minute queue we gave all our details to the check in guy who then tried to persuade us to upgrade. We were happy with our vehicle and declined the 'offer'. Half an hour later and still waiting for our car we went to the customer care desk and discovered the reason they were trying to upgrade us was because they didn't have our car available and rather than let us have a slightly higher spec. car they were just going to keep us waiting until something turned up.
we got out after one and half hours. That would have been bad enough but the check in staff claim that the amount you pay when you book is only an estimate and that it hasn't actually been taken from your credit card. So you give them your card and they help themselves to your money, we came home to find that we had paid another £400 because they had taken the estimated fees twice. This happened with both bookings on the east and west coast so it's not a one off. I WOULD NEVER USE OR RECOMMEND HERTZ AGAIN
