In January I booked a car in Ibiza from 29th March to 21st April and paid the full amount of £142. Because of the general strike in Spain tomorrow (29th March) my flight has had to be rebooked for 3rd April. I immediately phoned Hertz reservations in the UK to notify them that I would be picking up the car on the revised date, only to be told that this would cost me an extra £300, as the original booking would be cancelled and a new booking charged at the current higher cost. After two lengthy calls to their premium rate number I asked to speak to a manager and was told that they were all in meetings but that someone would call me back after 2.00 this afternoon. Needless to say I have not had a call.
Their excuse for demanding a higher rental fee was that the original price was a special offer which was no longer available. I was not asking to cancel the original booking, but merely to use the car for fewer days than I had originally booked. I am still waiting for their return call, but if this is the way they treat their customers I will never use them again.
