Our experience was at the branch in Milan Malpensa airport. We booked with Rental Cars and on collecting we were asked where we were travelling. We were crossing the Border into Switzerland which was only half an hour or so from this airport so pretty typical I should think. They said we would need to pay an extra 600 euros for Swiss insurance. Then they said we didn't have full cover and we should consider getting full breakdown cover. We showed them an email from Rental Cars stating Full protection included. This seemed to be ignored and the member of staff continued to request more money.

Our email from Rental Cars state department we were getting a 5 door Ford Focus. They told us this wasn't available and offered us a range of small 4 door Cars and about 2 really cheap end 5 door cars - some models I had not heard of!

In the end, we phoned Rental Cars and told them to cancel our agreement with Gold Car and asked them to find us another car hire company which they did. We went to Scicily by Car and they were excellent with no hidden extras. Avoid Gold Car - they are not up front and do not deserve the business and judging from all the negative reviews on here they aren't bothered either!

Thanks for your comment.

We're trying to improve our services and the opinion of clients is essential to do so.

On the issue you described, we understand that you booked a third party's coverage from home.
However, I'd like to explain you how our coverage policy works. We always make the customer choose from two different options: you can purchase our additional coverage or you can leave a deposit in which you'll be liable of any damage made to the car, as our agent explained you at the counter. However, as you did not ask expressly to block a deposit on your cc (or maybe you were using a debit card), they had no option but to add our additional coverage.
We are aware that third parties offer customers their own coverage, as in your case, but it should be explained that this coverage is only applied when a charge is debited from the deposit left by the customer to the rent-a-car company - this is how the third party's coverage policy works. As you didn’t leave deposit you’ll have to contact with your broker in order to ask them for a refund of this coverage you ended not using, because we're not aware of the conditions of the third party's coverage refund.
