Do not deserve even one star.Car booked through Rentalcars aggregate site on the basis of full to full fuel tank. Upon arrival, I was hassled for about 5 minutes by the rep trying to argue that Firefly fuel policy is full to empty and that my agreement with Rentalcars is superceded by firefly's. What you should know about FIREFLY CAR RENTAL After looking online for a reasonable car hire company I came across RhinoCarHire who operate from rentalcars who seemed to be cornering the market on cheap car rentals. “Truly awful”

Barcelona airport. Booking indicated that the rental place was in the terminal. Turns out that this is a bus journey to another terminal. No signs at all at the airport indicating where to go. Map on website doesn't work. Waited for ages in a queue only to be told that there was another office inside the terminal. No help with where in the terminal this is. Lost again in the terminal and the firefly place is nowhere near the rest of the car rentals. It is hidden away in a corner with no signs… Read Full Review

“Hidden charges”

When i picked up my car, I was informed that I would be getting a full tank of petrol that I would have to pay for and then I would be refunded the unused amount. In addition, there was a 23.39 Euro service charge added - this was more than original rental cost! At the end of the rental they could not tell me how much I would be refunded. Firefly urged us to pay an additional damage insurance but we declined as we have an independent insurance. The lady at the counter said (twice!) that we will think of her warning when we return the car if we don’t buy the extra insurance. We still declined. We returned the car without any inflicted damage after the 4 days renting period. “Very poor customer service”

When we received our car it had only had a very cursory clean particulaty the interior. The Firefly men had gone to the airport to pick up further customers ans so we had to wait for them to return. When i told him that i wanted the inside cleaned he implied that being English we were fussy and suggested i was unreasonable in expecting the car clean. Firefly doesn't accept debit cards, cash or online banking. I could pay in any of those methods but the staff only accepted credit cards. I was extremely disappointed with how poor the service was, by following doggedly a rulebook and not offering me any alternative. I had to cancel my booking and ruin my weekend plans, and I could only get a partial refund. Terrible service, avoid them at all costs… Read Full Review

We will not be using Firefly again. They have extremely limited mileage on some deals. 60 km per day and extortionate rates if you go over that. They used to be ok and we've used them on many occasions. NOT anymore… Read Full Review

Bergamo Airport wait was over 90 minutes, they offered so called fast track to screw you another 32 Euros but this still took for EVER. The car was in poor condition. Firefly are part of Hertz and clearly their old badly used vehicles are passed to Firefly. Return to Malpensa Milan was also bad, the location is NOT at the airport (between Terminals 1 & 2 off site parking) and we had to wait ages and then shout to get anyone to help us with courtesy transit to airport. No mention of extra mileage charge at time of internet booking and no mention at pick up. Just a big charge at end of rental. Plus a mess up on credit card and lots of chasing up and threatening of legal expenses. They sham you with a competitive quote at time of initial booking and then back end they add extra mileage and driver charges. Had to wait over an hour at Carcassonne to pick up the car. Had booked a full to full policy through Ryanair/Cartrawler. Were told that we could return empty and price would be cheaper than the pumps. Returned it full and were then later charged £53 for missing fuel. You don't have to spend long on Google to realise that this is clearly not uncommon. This is systematic. We will be notifying the authorities in the UK and France. We have rented many cars around the world but this was the first time with Firefly (Malaga airport) booked through Holiday Autos. We have our own Excess Insurance that we buy annually. When my husband went to collect the car at the desk he gave his credit card and passport as usual. They took the credit card and gave it back to him saying it had been declined. “A car hire experience which feels like a sham”

I booked a car from Firefly last week, paying insurance on top of the rental charges. When I got to the desk I was asked to pay another 107Euros insurance, if I want to be really worry free. Then, instead of the Ford C-Max I was expecting, they gave me the Alfa Romeo Giulietta, which is much smaller. Do you think the car was clean? Never again, car was dirty, not class of car paid for and Do NOT give your credit card details as they keep taking money out with no explanation. Over the past 4 years I have used Firefly Malaga on 20 occasions.I have always had my own insurance to cover my excess so resisted the high pressure selling at the desk.Up to and including March this year I have had no problem with them apart from them trying to sell insurance.I next used them in May and noticed all the cars were nearly new.On the back of my hire car was a scratch but i did not tell them about it because on previos occasions I had been told they were not interested in the… Read Full Review

I agree 100% just been charged 383.00 euros plus 49.68 admin fee for a small dent which was already there when I picked the car up but was not completely detailed on the green rental agreement sheet, where they mark with a pen the places where most but not all the dents and scratches are located. I believe they just scam at will when they feel like it. The young women at the VW van used as the return office in the Malaga airport are terrible. Sure they look friendly but watch out huge surprise is coming if your not prepared. My advice is yes 1. purchase independent excess insurance google it, 2. spend a good 5-10 minutes looking over the car to see if everything is marked down if not just go straight to the office (VW Van) and have them mark and sign the green sheet then 3. take photos with your smart phone of all 4 sides of the car while your in the car park area so it is clear its when you took the car. Please take the time you will thank me later trust me. Remember they are trying to make up for the low rental prices.

I knew that Zest covered the excess, so rejected all attempts by Firefly staff to sell an extra CDW at Carcassonne Airport. However, on my return I found that my credit card was charged for the Firefly CDW, and at 3 times their quoted rate! Use Firefly at your peril!… Read Full Review

We drove the car for about 30 mins before one of the passengers remarked that the two section rear seat lilted backwards more than the single section rear seat. We tried to click it back in but it wasn't easy to do so we just suffered it for the duration of the rental. We did not take out excess insurance with Firefly as it was so expensive and it became obvious at the car check on return that the girls were trying to find the slightest chip or mark to try and charge us. I have used them over the years and not had a problem until this year.If you do not use their insurance make sure you spend at least 20 minutes inspecting the car for damage otherwise they will find some on return.One of the most dishonest companies I have come accross.
