I used the website as the car at the Localiza office was more expensive and did not allow the purchase of full insurance: it looks like the possibility is not contemplated in Brazil.
I apparently picked the wrong office when reserving online, but staff at Localiza promptly shifted the reservation to their own office, which was 20 metres from my hotel.
The car was OK, it was an ugly FIAT, but served the purpose.
We returned it the next day directly to the airport office. They tried to charge me an additional fee for returning the car to a different location, which I objected, as nothing of the sort was mentioned when I booked online. They eventually gave up the claim. It's OK I speak Italian and Spanish and therefore managed to understand most of what was being said, as I got the impression that the people working at the office airport could not speak a word of English. That is a sad reality in many hotels and offices in Brazil.
