On the 7th October 2016 we attended the terminal Europcar desk to collect our hire car which we had booked & fully paid for in the UK. After a considerable wait (very busy) we were greeted by a female member of staff who was exceptionally friendly & charming. She attempted to sell us CDW insurance but we have annual worldwide cover so declined. She next suggested we upgrade our vehicle as the V W Polo we had arranged to hire was not available, she offered two different makes of convertibles. I declined both. She then suggested we upgrade to a V W Tiguan. She stated the extra cost was only 40 euros, this seemed very reasonable so we accepted. I was presented with the paperwork which was folded so not all visible, I signed,. regretfully I did not unfold the paperwork to check the typed costs. Returning to the UK I received an invoice for extra 320 euros plus taxes all due to the upgrade, I was astonished by this huge extra cost, At no time did the female operative state the upgrade would cost 40 euros per day plus taxes. I have sent several emails to Europcar UK re the above, eventually receiving a reply. EG It's all my fault for signing the paper work. I have never denied I signed, But I strongly believe that we were mislead either deliberately or due to inadequate staff training & poor supervision. We have previously used this company & are members of their Privilege Club. I will never use them again & certainly would not recommend them.
