Europcar do not provide fitting or installation instructions with any of their child car seats and will happily let you drive off with an incorrectly fitted car seat.

My family and I recently booked and car and car seat (for our 1 year old) from their Barcelona branch. After arriving I was handed a car seat with no instructions and was told that fitting was my responsibility. I asked for instructions and was told they had none. I asked the Europcar employee to assist me as the seat was very complicated and he grunted that if I drove the car to his front desk he would have a look.

He spent about a minute fitting the seat and told me it was complete. I showed him that I was able to fully rotate the seat 90 degrees to the left and right and that it was not fitted correctly, he then told me that if I jammed the head rest against the car seat it would solve my problems, which obviously it wouldn't. I voiced my concerns and he stormed off. I then took 30 minutes to fit the seat in 30 degrees heat with our child crying the whole time.

After calling customers services I was told that they have a variety of car seats and they have no obligation to provide instructions, as you are not renting the car seat, the car seat is an accessory to the car rental (whatever that means). I asked the very rude customer services manager what she would have done in the situation I was in and she said she would never hire a car seat from Europcar, but she would have brought her own........that about sums this company us.

I just wonder how many children are current driving around in ill fitting car seats rented from Europcar? They were quite happy to let me drive off in a car seat that if I was to have an accident would either injure or kill my child. I personnel think it disgusting that they take no responsibility for fitting the seat, have multiple models with no instructions either at the time of booking or at the rental station, and shrug it off with the following written statement when I complain:

"I can confirm that the agent correctly acted on this occasion"
