DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY IN PORTUGAL, they use a company called GOLDCAR, who gave us a three year old car which had been in many bumps and scrapes and there was some damage on most of the panels. I felt that we were being set up to be charged for more damage. The practice of supplying a full tank of fuel and then charging well over the odds for the fuel (92Euros for a small tank)with no refund for any unused fuel smells of sharp practice. They also wanted 750 Euros as a deposit against further damages despite the insurance being included. I feel that had my husband and I not been aware of the potential of further damage charges and the fact that I took photos of every panel of the car, we would have been charged for more damage. We went to the trouble of cleaning the car before return and when the agent came out to check the car, they were amazed at the condition of it and subsequently found it impossible to charge us for any further damage. My Portugese is basic but I can understand some of the comments that were being made between the agents of GOLDCAR when they looked at the paperwork and they were obviously disappointed at not being able to charge us further and the 750 Euros were returned to us.I have contacted Economy Car Rentals and told them that we were very unhappy with the way we were treated, but they are not interested in making any improvements to their service.

Exact same thing happened to my partner and I 10 days ago. The fuel policy is beyond ridiculous, we were never going to use 90Euros. And the 750Euro deposit caught us off guard too. After reading all the T&C's it seems it was all there in black and white but economycarrentals.com advertises no hidden costs but the fuel charge and 750 excess were certainly hidden in the T&C's, I've learnt my lesson there. After looking at the actual GoldCar website it seem the fuel charged locally is their only fuel policy.
To make things worse we were given an old banger (Fiat Punto) with bald tires, we quickly complained saying this was illegal and we were given a brand new VW Polo without too much hassle involved.
With 800KM in the fuel tank we were gutted to say the least when our journey to our Villa is only 65km one way.....but on Wednesday we decided to drive the 300km to Lisbon for the Man U game, so we smugly gave back the car with only 90KM in the fuel tank instead of the 600KM we would go given back had we not gone to the footie.
I'm sorry you had a similar experience to us, just can't believe they get away with it. I'm going to go on as many review sites as I can to warm people. The worst part is the website was recommended by a family member who has used them for 8 years and never had a problem but I did notice on the Gold Car website that Gold Car were 'new' to Faro.
