We collected our vehicle at Del Paso near Malaga Airport on Wednesday 3rd August about 18:45. We hired a Fiat Doblo Manual Transmission car. We were told the car was new so were not surprised that the rep didn't come out with us to check the car. I started to check the car with my dad but was distracted by looking for a map of our destination & was quite happy that we had a new car so didn't expect to see any damage. With 3 kids on a very hot arrival, we made the mistake of not thoroughly checking the paperwork or the car in any more detail. Like the family reviewers before us, we just wanted to get on and enjoy our holiday. However, we noticed one scratch on the rear light when we parked at our hotel. We informed them of this mark when we collected my husband from the airport the next day & before even looking at the paperwork they said it was a new car & we should try & clean the mark off ourselves before we returned it. However, when we checked the paperwork they saw that the scratch was already there along with 2 other noted damages (not such a new car after all!). We had decided not to take the Full insurance as we were careful drivers who had hired cars in other parts of the world on many occasions and never had a problems before. We were extrememly careful driving & parking during our stay & had no incidents of damage. We returned the car in the condition it was given to us on 16th August on time with a full tank of fuel. Unlike the previous reviewer, we had a v. pleasant rep who got down on his hands & knees to inspect every inch of the car (which we now realise we will have to do in all our future car rentals!!). As the minutes ticked on, he finally found a couple of small dents to the back panel of the car which could only be seen if looked at a particular angle. He said since we had taken out insurance with the UK agent we should claim back the 450 euros that he charged to our credit card from them. We trusted him & presumed our basic CDW would cover the damage. We now know from reading our paperwork that this is not true. We too tried to explain that the vehicle had been returned in the same condition it was given and the surface scratches already existed but as expected we had no time to argue as we had to check in at the airport within the next half hour. And this is exactly what they prey on... time-pressured holiday makers. It is a lesson learned for us too!!! Follow the advice of the previous reviewer in checking absolutely every inch & at every angle! And obviously, take out the full insurance cover as I believe they have a list of damages on each car that they will claim as a damage from future hirers! He even acknowledged that Spanish drivers are not careful with parking bumps or opening door bumps, which is how he assumed the damage was incurred. Advice we could have done with at the start of our rental! DO NOT RENT A VEHICLE FROM DEL PASO or do not rent the Car Reg# 7737 JFN, there's an endless list of damage to this apparently NEW car!
