Rented a car through citygo rentals Malta in October 2023. On arrival in airport couldn’t find them for long time. Wasn’t clearly advertised or visible. Was going circles asking other agents if they know where I can find them. Was only one person working even were few people in the office, hence queues. We were charged because apparently, I was selected as main driver, however I only made a payment during booking and 100% entered my husband as main driver in the provided section, but after purchase on the printed booking form, I appeared as main driver. Obviously, we had to pay ridicules money to add my husband as second driver. Then apparently somewhere on the back was printed message on confirmation form that we must use credit card, this information must be stated clearly in BOLD before completing purchase! However, we didn’t see this important info. When I printed form, I didn’t read all 3 pages of small print, but that would be too late anyway. Booking in is awful and the way client informed of important things is poor. Also, we been charged for fuel which was big surprise because it is cheaper to fill in yourself, price they charged was inadequate, and in the form wasn’t clearly stated that we will have to pay it on arrival! Person who was providing service wasn’t pleasant to deal with, his attitude stinks. Also car which we received was very dirty and was no screen wash, tank was empty and we couldn’t clean window, been driving in dangerous position!

Cost offered for Toyota Aygo was 6 euros per day. Get there and typical if you don't have a credit card 170 euros add on insurance. Also random charge of 29 euros to cover their cost for parking at the Airport Car Park. Charged for petrol full tank before even used. Told full tank and drive off to notice only half tank of fuel in car. Booked at 170 euros online for 27 days and somehow came out of their office 700 euros down with a random additional 300 euros held also. Heaviest clutch pedal ever had in my life and driven a car from the 1980s. Fobbed off by employee that all the Peugeots of that model had the same heavy clutch. More like the clutch needed replacing. I ordered a Toyota also. Just yet another hire car company that rips off their clients.

We booked the car through Discovercars.com and our first impressions of Malta was dealing with a sham company! Customer service was shocking, very unpleasant. We paid for a 5 seater Fiat Panda with full insurance cover. Instead, we were given a rusty old Kia Picanto. They were trying to convince us that Picanto is bigger than Panda (not true) and that we should have paid for a 5 person car (which we did). They also tried to sell us extra insurance for €12/day, even though we had purchased full cover already. They tried to scare us that if anything happens to the car they will charge us and we won't get the money back (another untrue). Then if we asked if we could upgrade to a bigger car, they offered us Hyundai i10 for additional €30, claiming it is even bigger than Panda. We did not take the bait. Lastly, we were charged €48 for a full tank of petrol, even though it was only 2/3 full. If I could give 0 stars, I would. Worst car hire company I've ever dealt with. If your car hire offer mentions CityGo or KWL, cancel the rental and avoid them at all costs.

Great car but bad company policies and uncooperative office staff with hidden charges. Insisted I pay for half a tank of fuel at their own rates. Was overcharged double for half tank of fuel due to their excessive charges and rigid policies that must take fuel from them. I was charged out of office pick up 25 euros on a Sunday when office staff was there. Office staff was so stubborn he wouldn’t even let me use a different debit card for the payment and insisted use the same credit card as holding deposit. Annoying ! I was also charged 25 euros early morning drop off fee but there was a key drop off box and nobody was there! On top they added airport surcharge fee and taxes which were not made clear at the time of booking. All cost me more than 100 pounds extra than the total car hire fee initially quoted. Good car but deceptive and stubborn company.

I really don't get it. After I read this reviews I was more than afraid to rent a car by Gitygo but It was to late to cancel it and that was actually our luck! We had not a problem at all! Contrary: Everything was more than fine. We got a brand-new car (150 km already driven), everything went very quick (no long waiting hours). The price-performance-relation is awesome. We paid only 11 Euro a day and that's literally nothing compares to all the other rental organization. Maybe there was an owner change ore anything else but everything was fine and we have nothing to decline. Maybe just one thing: we had to pay a deposit of 1000 Euro that's quite a lot, but it was just blocked and not even payed. So we are very happy and I can truly recommend Citygo Malta!

We booked a vehicle through Carjet for our stay in Malta and even paid extra for insurance to avoid potential excesses. Once we arrived at Valletta airport on July 7th, we went to the airport to the rental company indicated by Carjet, which is called CityGo, which asks us to pay 12 euros of insurance per day, plus, in addition to the 12 euros per day, 250 euros on our credit card… the employee told us that the insurance already purchased from Carjet did not apply! And there, they provided us… a damaged car! It was possible to drive it, but it had a damaged front wing, shocks everywhere, to sum up, a car in terrible condition! And no other choice, no other vehicle available, so we were forced to accept if we wanted to be able to travel during our vacation. As a precaution we took photos of all parts of the car, and ddi the same when we brought back the vehicle to the airport on July 12th. Since then, we have been waiting for the 250 euros to be reimbursed, and of course, we still have not received any money! Above all, avoid using Carjet and CityGo!!!

Lot of hidden costs. First they charge your creditcard with an amount of hidden costs; You have to pay for a half of tank of Fuel. They charge 48€ for that, at the fuel station it's less than 20€. You pay 50€ when you pick up and return the car outside office hours, even if there is nobody around and you drop the keys in there mailbox. They add local fee, whatever that means. And in the end tax. So after charging all these hidden costs together with amount what was known on forehand, your creditcard is not able to accept the deposit of €1800!! anymore. And that is their next sham. They can reduce the deposit to €250 but it cost you another 169€ for the rental period. So in the end I paid the car more than double. Looks like they do this all on purpose. Beside that they are very rude, from the beginning you are feeling they try to sham you all the time. They clear the deposit not earlier than 21 days after returning the car. Your card will be blocked for this amount unnessecary for 3 weeks. Avoid them at all costs!!

Avoid at all costs Met with the vilest man I have ever met. They hired out the car we had originally booked and then tried to charge us more for another one. Horrible man who enjoyed the whole thing. Worst customer service ever. We walked away and used a better company at adjacent desk DO NOT USE

Booked via Malta First and ended up with this rude, aggressive bunch at KWL. Take payment from your card before stating they have charged you a small fortune for half a tank of fuel with a petrol station 1 minute drive away. Car covered in stratches and dents which I video'd thankfully. Charged £3800 security deposit which wasn't highlighted in any booking details from Malta First. Returned the badly serviced, scratched vehicle with the brakes that needing changing thousands of miles before to be greeted in the car park. Instantly asking me why there were so many scratches and my deposit would be lost. Explained in no uncertain terms this was how I collected it and I had it on video and if he wanted me to get the police we could. Strangely he then said ok and signed the form to state it was returned ok. Obviously they try this trick to everyone in the hope we waive goodbye to a few thousand euro's. It then takes a full month for you to get the £3800 back even though I asked them to send an email stating there was no charge to be taken as I didnt trust them in the slightest and the issue could have been resolved within a few days of returning. Avoid these lot do what we did and hire locally for the second week, professional, friendly, good vehicles and not out to try trick you for damage they already know about. Don't fall for the "this is the Maltese way" which unfortunately I did and don't think the rest of the lovely people of Malta are anything like them as it couldnt be further from the truth.

The agency employee was very rough and when I didn't understand the conditions of the proposed insurance, despite explaining that I had an insurance policy with the broker, and asked for time to think, he was very crude and started speaking his own language to another colleague. All communication had been in English. The amount of fuel charged (half a tank) was much higher than the country's average. The car was good, new and comfortable. The car delivery service was very good, with time for explanations and confirmation of the car's condition.

To be avoided at all costs... We booked a car with KWL via a third party online car hire company. The price was keen but the description did not properly list the extra costs applicable. €50 for location and OOH fees and half a tank of diesel charged at TWICE the going rate, no receipt provided of course. Upon being served with the paperwork, we were then notified that they did not accept cash or American Express credit card and that this was identified in their T&Cs that were never sent to us in the 3 months between booking and arrival, not even in person with the rep after she referred to them. This reduced our option to one credit card with a smaller limit and we knew instantly that this would prove problematic. Having used this same card already to pay the balance, we then did not have enough credit left to block the extortionate €2500 excess that came with the booking. We ended up paying an additional €140.00 upfront to bring the excess down to €500. We realised that this was KWL's intention from the beginning. The terminal flew back and forth with the satisfied agent punching in all the amounts. Finally, the card was pre-authorised for a non-refundable €1, the cherry on the KWL cake. Too exhausted and with 3 young children to think of, we took the hit, collected the vehicle and moved on. The experience was traumatic and a terrible financial hit at the very start of our visit which had an impact on our budget for the remainder of the trip. Upon returning the vehicle, we saw a heated discussion taking place between KWL agents and another pair of very unhappy tourists who were clearly learning of the extra costs. To finish, the €500 continues to be blocked for 30 days following the return of the vehicle, even though they check it to confirm that you have returned it in good order. We experienced the most terrible, extortionate and manipulative behaviour from KWL, and would advise others to stick with a well known brand and avoid this company that can only be described as a disease on Malta's Tourism Sector.

Research engine showed them the cheapest rental company on Malta so I purchased online an insurance as well for the car. When picking up the car they charged me for their own insurance, saying that the one I had is not valid. Furthermore they charged me for using the airport and for out of opening hours. 30 euros for each reason. I had to pay for "half a tank" 35 euros as well, saying bring it back empty. This was a Citroën C1 with a tiny fuel tank. Half a tank was cca 10 euros at the station. The whole experience with them was so humiliating so I just wanted to leave and take the car. Finally I paid more than 150 euros instead of the 9 euros mentioned in their message what I have to pay at the counter after purchasing the insurance online. Disappointing.

Sham company, no other words required really. They take from your card and keep jacking up the price. I left with no car but down money which they refused to return. Better that than let them sham me further.

They charge you a lot extra money, all on the spot, they are very quick, just fill in the number on their cardmachine. We should be paying 45€ on online calculation, and as was Arranged with the owner. Eventually we ended up paying 210€. The Car itself was dirty Inside with a lot of external defects. After checking out they won't do it personally and eventually they keep from the deposit. Would definitly NOT recommend.

I booked the car through VIP in London I fill out the form with them I said that I didn't want the extra insurance even through it was in the price of 58.8 euro everything was find up to that point. I pick up the car in Malta from company called KWL I thought it was ok. I was ill after stressful flight he had my form that was filled out on line to VIP. I told him that I have my own insurance which he said ok. He took my credit card , I trusted him to take the agree amount. I put in my pin in the machine but when I got to the hotel and saw that I he actually also paid for the insurance which I had declined. I went straight away to they office in Qawra road to complain and he said that he couldn't do anything because I left the airport and to complain when I get home and he also said not to get car from airport which didn't help. However I have tried and tried by sending emails to KWL also Sun car rentals over 10 days and I am not getting any acknowledgment what's so ever I have put in a dispute with my credit card I don't know what else I can do When I sign the paper work he stated to talk to me and I didn't look anymore and just sign it which was my own fault like I said I wasnt very well I just wanted to go

KWL was located next door to our hotel so we decided to use them, big mistake. It was a Skoda Fabia. We went out on the first day came back and parked the car. Following day we went to the car and it was totally dead. They sent a mechanic out who had to phone someone as he didnt know how to open the bonnet. All he did was jump start the car. However, we waited so long in the soaring heat that i became unwell and had to go back to the hotel. The following day we went to the car and it was totally dead again. Again they came out and jump started the car and said we had left the lights on. This was rubbish, it was the alternator not charging the battery. We told them we would not take the car now as we could not trust it and asked for a refund. They refused and said it was because we left the lights on. They also oed us to believe that the petrol in the car was free of charge but it was as they charged us 38.50 for the petrol. We found this company very unhelpful and now started a charge back.

CityGo Car Rentals picked me up from a local garage when my car had gone on the blink. Not only did I find their staff to be friendly and professional, but they also let me have a child boaster seat free of charge as I'd left mine at home. They met me out of trading hours on a Sunday when I dropped the car off too. All in all I'd give them 10 out of 10. Thank you very much for rescuing us! :-)

Exactly what happened to me in March 2023. I have an email saying all I would have to pay was €7.35. I was charged €104. And the car was dreadful. I complained and after a initial response my emails are now ignored. With all the hidden cost it's cheaper to hire from one of the large reputable hire companies plus the cars are in much better condition.
