Booking process was easy. What was not apparent at the time was that the insurance on offer from Car Trawler was completely separate to the car rental organisation.

In other words, in the event of collision damage, the procedures for payment of excess that were required by the car rental company were the same as if one had no insurance. Sure the excess payment would be reimbursed through Car Trawler insurance - eventually - but on the day, at the time, the payment required by the car rental company (and clearly explained in their rental documentation) was in the THOUSANDS of dollars.

This fact was a severe blow to the young backpackers in front of me at the car rental counter, who had just been informed that their holiday funds had disappeared into payment of insurance excess.
