Hired the car threw Carhire depot from Faro Airport, Portugal. Found the PAA office on the airport car park, which is very easy to find. No problems with the car, which was a Hyundia i10. I looked for a car hire that was competitively priced and had a fair fuel policy (I avoid the return empty policies that seem to be so common). For a cheap price, there really wasn't that much inconvenience - at Faro airport it's an easy walk to the car park 4 where the Jar guy operated out of a van (I did admitedly have to ask where he was at the car park desk). Only fault I found was that the Jar guy was quite unfriendly, at least there was a nice smiling lady that we returned the car to. (read more)

Very easy website to navigate and to make the necessary comparisons. Easy to make a booking. I would have preferred to be able to pay the whole rental up front rather than just a 10% deposit though especially as the car hire firm seemed totally unaware of the arrangement when I picked the car up. The only issue that I had with the whole booking was not knowing the name of the actual rental company until after the confirmation of the booking. I was aware of some rogue rental companies who are using a 'bring it back' empty fuel policy (not good for short distance renters) and some dodgy excess claims. (read more)

No problem with booking with Car Hire Depot but a word of warning if hiring from Faro airport: It must have the worst car rental collection service we have experienced - there is only one small portacabin in the rental car park (some way from the terminal) serving all car rental companies. It took an hour to actually get the cars our party, 6 adults and two small children, had hired. Fortunately drop-off was easy - man with clipboard followed our car into rental car park and collected the key! (read more)

I was shocked at the outside condition of the car, and wasted time going back to report it, the condition did not match the sheet that I had been given. When later I looked at the car in daylight it was worse then I imagined. On return I took issue with the rep who then informed me that the cars are photographed for dispute purposes prior to going out, although I saw no evidence of this, I was relieved . Positives: Great website and very easy to navigate. Clear easy to follow instructions once we had selected the type of car we needed to hire for our holiday. I booked a five seat Ford Focus or similar and was surprised to find I had an Opel Combo more like a van than a family car. It was not particularly new with nearly 150,000 kilo on the clock. However it did the job and was good on the many dirt roads that one needs to use if you venture anywhere into the more remote areas. The person delivering the car met me at the arrivals gate and we did the paper work. He was very friendly and made the process quick and easy. We then walked to the car and he went through the details of the car, for example the button to open the petrol cap, the lights and windscreen wipers, which was very helpful. The damage on the vehicle at the time of collection could be made clearer. A spare wheel instead of repair kit would be prefered. It would be fairer to collect a car with full tank of fuel and return full. I believe an electronic device is going to be used in your vehicles for tolls, I would be interested to know how this is going to work? The company In FAro are one of the ones in the P4 aprking area which is not an issue unless you have mobility issues a s they have now moved it and it is a long walk. some notice on the paeres would have been helpful. The booking process was clear and straight forward. As excess insurance is advisable in Spain, this company provided competitive rates. The pick up and drop off were very smooth and the agent that met us was very helpful. Most rental companies in the area charge for a full tank of petrol at almost twice the cost to offset the low charges so take this into account when comparing prices. (read more)

Car was OK, but 2009 registered with a damaged front offside wing and a number of other dents and scratches around it. Had I paid much more for the hire I would have been unhappy and probably rejected it. It was a bit "rent-a-wreck" but mechanically it was perfectly sound. A benefit was that if we had had the misfortune to suffer minor damage it would have been difficult for the hiring company to have made much of it. Collected just outside the airport and no queueing. The car had done service all summer and had a few marks which meant it was far more relaxing to drive it than a brand new one. Everything was clean and ready to go even the luminous jacket required by Portuguese law inside the car. With our large family we always need a 7 seater and got an excellent deal with Car Hire depot. We flew into Alicante and the car place (Drivalia) was only a short ride away. Easy to collect easy to return. Would recommend and will use again. We had to pay for a full tank of fuel, which is normal in spain and return the vehicle empty. The website was easy to use and made it clear what was included and extra. Had to call about adding a second driver and the customer service staff were efficient Friendly and helpful. I liked the extra insurance from the local car hire company which was no more than offered online beforehand. it meant no problems with scratches etc either existing or not. The desk clerk said I could wreck the car if I wanted , there would be no charge and they would give a replacement. Only niggle was a 20 minute queue at the airport to get to the collection desk. We chose the cheapest car "Kia Picanto" for our week in Costa Del Sol, Spain. Pay a deposit before you go and the balance on arrival. There will be a small extra charge for out of hours collection and they supply the car with a full tank of fuel which you also have to pay for. A lot more than what the fuel would actually cost. The supplier Car Hire Depot offered us turned out to provide the best service I have experienced in more than 30 years of hiring cars abroad. Marbenjo staff definitely went the extra mile, even driving out to meet us when we couldn't find our way back to them at the end of the hire period to ensure we didn't run over time or get more stressed. We were given a map to return the car but it was not the easiest place to find and would have preferred a drop off at the airport.
