“I would never rent from this company again”

I would never rent from this company again. It took over an hour of administration before I had the keys to the car and about half an hour waiting to hand back the keys at the end of the holiday. Whilst waiting, I saw lots of unhappy customers complaining about different things. The main complaint is about the hard selling that you have to put up with at the counter whilst they complete the admin. They strongly advise you that you need further insurance and of the dire consequences of not having that extra insurance in various scenarios. I won't hire from Europcar either as they appear to be associated with CarDelMar.

“Complete contempt for the client”

Via Cardelmar rented a car at the Co in Argentina Our flight was delayed and so we arrived in Buenos Aires a day later The cardelmar voucher contained a phone number that enabled Cactus 7/7 24/24 to be reached Called immediately from London as soon as delay was known, no reply, 8 more tried, no reply, sms sent and email to cardelmar with request cactus (what she never did). On arrival day later at airport BA 4.30h waited for ordered car. This was rented in the meanwhile and we got an old replacement truck totally damaged on the outside (scratching ...) Cactus apologized for cardelmar has given a wrong phone number. So they were not informed. Now the despicable, arrogant service of Cardelmar comes. On my single emails I was totally unable to answer. The Ceo contacted, sudden movement in the case, but after a summier investigation, Cardelmar answers my claim for damages (London London London BA, 4.30h Waiting, Old Wagon ...) TGV. A particularly serious mistake of Cardelmar Wrong Phone Number Given with all of our problems, We do not give any damages - Without motivation, without arguments - Top of botany, arrogance, power. All the evidence I had sent, all the emails, the apology of Cactus, all no reason for Cardelmar to give any explanation even to apologize. Only: We do not. Rejectable. Total contempt of their customer. Perhaps you pay a little more with another car rental but you win at all levels by avoiding Cardelmar. That firm denies its tenants with an incredible dedain.

“Don't touch with a barge pole”

Don't touch with a barge pole. Internet booking for car hire in Santorini on 'full to full' fuel policy. Car was delivered with almost empty tank. Agent from sub-contracted Sunrise Rent A Car didn't want to know. When checking the car for dents and scratches, he was rude and aggressive. Condition of car was ropy. On 5th and final day, engine started rattling. Sounded like gear box was about to pack in. Feared we weren't going to make it to the airport. Went over a large bump in the road and the noise disappeared! Wrote a complaint email to MD in Germany, mostly about fuel misrepresentation, but no response received.

“Horrific”

The measure of a good company is how they deal with problems when they occur. We had a problem (the car hire company supplied us the wrong, and inappropriate, vehicle). Cardelmar simply weren't interested. Quoted terms and conditions that didn't even address the issues we encountered and showed no interest whatsoever in even discussing it with us. Don't touch these guys with a barge pole. If you have to, use them to filter best prices but then book directly with the rental company.

“Find out days after your booking that Crock of Marde...”

Find out days after your booking that Crock of Marde cannot honour the agreement, and they will then offer you a far more expensive car, when there is little time to find an alternative and prices have gone up. Then wait 10 days to get your money back! (We hope.) Ring up and be told off by rude guy who won't tell you the name of his boss or let you speak to anyone higher in the organisation. He won't even give you their bosses name, won't admit a boss exists... (He's been through this before...) Another nasty company linked to ebookers who are another such company, another one to avoid at all costs.

“Please do not use this company”

Please please please do NOT use CarDelMar or Rhodium/Goldstar. I booked a 4 door, four seater Fiesta car in the South of France for £150 approx - the final cost was over £450 once the local car hire company Goldstar had charged me additional costs for virtually everything, refused to accept the insurance, forced me to upgrade by offering a Fiat 500 etc The car was available from Hertz and Budget for £350.  It also took me over 90 minutes in the sweltering heat before I finally drove away. A lesson learned!!!"

“Please stay away”

Rented a car through their website and only after you receive the voucher you find out that the car has limited allowance for miles per day. Called to cancel straight away, but they don't work after 5pm local time, so have to call the next day. And the next day was already within 'no cancellation' period so they refused to cancel it. And you cant get through to their number. It always shows as busy. Please avoid like a plague.

“Stay away!!”

they overcharged me 40 euro for picking the car up outside office hours because they gave me the wrong office hours when I made the booking (maybe on purpose, because it looks someone on here had a similar issue). After endless calls with their support members, a support woman who always interrupted me and never let me finish my sentence hangs up on me because she says she is not enjoying the conversation with me. I was stunned, more so since I own a support line myself! I was never rude in any way, I just told her that she needs to let me finish my sentence because I am the customer and it's her job to let me at least finish my sentence. She started arguing with me and hang up on me because she didn't enjoy the conversation. I was appalled!!!!! I bet she had no idea what my issue was even, because she didn't listen at all, but boy did she have a temper! And terrible English too. Worst company ever!!!

“they are no good ! do not use this firm! ”

2 months before Xmas we booked a car for 11 days and were supposed to pick it up from a Berlin car rental firm. our plane was late due to security problems ( Berlin just passed a terrorist attack ) and the guy at the rental shop said that our car have been given away since we are late.( 1 1/2 hours ) wrote to Car del Mar and they said in " german" and i try to translate that "no refund at all for the money paid " . i ask you if this is a company one should work with? the amount was not so great about 200 Euros but it is the way they take your money and do not give you what you paid for nor refund you! DON'T DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY - YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED !

“In a market of sharks, this is the Great White”

CarDelMar are simply terrible. Like many before, I was enticed by the ridiculously low online price - it was ridiculous for a reason as any victim will testify. I ended up paying for a car that I couldn't use and paying many times more as walk-in at a "rival" in order to get 3 generations of my family from the back-end of beyond to our destination. In many years of travel I have not experienced something similar. No number to call if arriving at the weekend. (An 0871 number is available during the week but good luck with that - and save up first). Appalling. Suggested a refund was forthcoming and then withdrawn. Sucked into a battle of emails (but only after having to play Sherlock Holmes to find a communication address). Would have been much better served reading the numerous awful reviews on the internet and saving my time. Or even more so doing that first and saving my money. A complete and utter sham. *Not possible to submit zero stars on the feedback form, so take the one forced out of me as reward for realisation that I've been lucky to avoid this lot until this point.*

“Overcharge, rubbish complaints system”

Not happy with them thinking it's ok to just take money from your credit card. Complicated complaints procedure resulting in a partial refund and closing the complaint and telling me to ring Germany,NOT good enough!!! Would not use again, would not recommend.

“RENTERS BEWARE ”

I used this company to book a car in Crete (Heraklion airport) in June this year. The supplier was EuRopcar and though it said it was a meet and greet service it wasn't - we had to go over to the company office to collect the car (which was important as I am disabled and wasn't able to help carry the cases). The car itself (an Audi A1) was not in especially good condition and had several marks on the bodywork- which were hard to see as a) the car was black and b) it was evening time. However on our return, the assistant claimed that there was an additional few scratches on the front valence (not marked on the sheet). I argued that we had NOT caused them but was blackguarded into paying over about 100 euros. I'm afraid it is all part of a scare tactic used by unscrupulous rental agencies - they pretend not to understand when you try to explain, argue about how much they COULD take from you and of course you have flight to catch. However, as I had a stand-alone excess insurance policy (Insurance4Carrental) I knew that at least I could reclaim the amount in question. Accordingly, I paid by credit car and signed the form. Once home, I contacted my excess cover insurance company and sent in all the reference numbers but then discovered that the agent had not supplied details of the alleged damage. Result: although I had proof of having made a payment to EuRopcar no other details were provided therefore the insurance company would not pay out. I have lost track of how many phone calls made and emails sent regarding this matter since that time - but to no avail. Despite asking repeatedly for help from CarDelMar and ringing them (in Portugal) they have now said that I must contact EuRopcar (who earlier even denied my ever renting a car from them, despite having paperwork and appropriate documentation. This has been going on three months now - and is still unresolved. Conclusion: Choose your rental company and car supplier carefully. Based on my experience, avoid CarDelMar and EuRopcar - their customer service is extremely poor.

“Absolutely Horrible ”

I have used many car rental brokerage services and Car Del Mar by far has been the worst. We were denied a car rental from the car company for terms and conditions that Car Del Mar did not provide us causing us to not be able to have a rental car once we arrived on holiday. We had to go to the nearest car rental company pay three times what we were going to pay and just have Car Del Mar refuse to issue us a refund due to the terms and conditions they did not provide. This is a bad company. BEWARE and DO NOT USE THEM. The same prices are offered through more reputable companies.

“they owe me £600!!! - avoid this company ”

Hired a car in Tenerife at Easter and all went to plan. Unfortunately I had an accident and inline with their policy I paid £600 excess which under the contract I could reclaim on my return. They accepted my claim but have never paid. I have tried and tried but they have never explained why no payment. They have even given me a reference number for a payment they have never made which is bizarre behaviour. Customer services says they will contact me and have escalated to their accounts dept but still no payment or contact. Avoid this company like the plague.

“My flight was redirected. They cancelled my car and...”

They are awful! Avoid this company like the plague. My flight was delay and then mid-flight redirected to another airport. I tried multiple times to call and tell them I was running late but no one answered. Then next day after 10 attempts I was able to speak to someone however by then they had cancelled my booking and refused to give me either a car or a refund! They are the skum of the earth!

“NIGHTMARE IN SYDNEY”

Went to the funeral of my partners father and there was no car, instructions of where to go to pick up the vehicle and ended up getting a taxi and hiring a car from Hertz in the city. The funds had been taken from my card and although the deal was reasonable I would rather have paid extra. When I returned to the UK no one would speak to me from Car Del Mar including the German office although I had e-mail evidence to prove I was in the right. My work has been travelling internationally and this is the worst car hire episode I have ever had especially with the fact no manager would speak or even communicate with me over the situation.

“disgraceful company who should not be in business”

I arrived in Kefalonia with my two young daughters late at night. I had booked with a debit card online and because I forgot to take a credit card I was refused the use of the car. There was a excess which I offered to give in CASH and also offered my debit card. They still refused to give us the car so at 11pm at night stranded with two young daughters we walked out of the shop with another couple arguing with them saying they had been tricked. When we walked out of the shop and being told a taxi was 112 euros to our hotel, the taxi driver told us of another company that may help. Luckily for us we caught them just as they were going home and we hired a car with them with a DEBIT CARD!!!!!!!. It was no problem they took the £560 and refunded when we returned the car, How professional they were compared with abysmal treatment we received from Car del mar. After phoning to complain when I got home I was told I had no chance of a refund, well I am going to Citizens advice, the Trading Standards, and the Ombudsman to see if anything can be done. These people should not be trading and after speaking to other car rental companies they have all said it is the dirty tricks they play. SO PLEASE EVERYONE DONT BE FOOLED BY THE CHEAP PRICE, STAY AS FAR AWAY AS POSSIBLE FROM THESE....... WELL I CANT EVEN CALL THEM PEOPLE.

“Appalling service. Will never us this company again”

My flight was cancelled by Easy Jet. I advised Car del Mar call centre immediately. They were very offhand in their response and refused to discuss even a postponement or rescheduling of the booking. I complained via the web site and received a response that I was a no show at the car rental company. This is absolutely untrue and they are aware that I contacted them straight away after my flight was cancelled. I hire from a great many companies in various countries and will ensure that I never use Car deal Mar ever again. This is the worst experience I have had in over 30 years of car hire. Never go near them, there are plenty of decent operators out there. No need to use a company that is simply trying to screw the customer at every turn.

“Stay away from this broker”

This is a nightmare broker to deal with. Their partner did not have a car for us Italy. We had to rent from different agency the next day and had to pay AGAIN for our car rental. Trying to get back the charges for this second rental and the costs for a taxi is proofing to be a nightmare. Car Del Mar do not seem to understand that the contract is between us the buyer and Car Del Mar and not the rogue rental agency (joyrent.it). The claim's process is set up in order to frustrate the client to no end. You need to input everything on its website. Once it is inputted the agency has 7 days to look at your claim. (this is not stated anywhere). Furthermore, if you contact them again online the 7 days countdown starts again!!! Calling them is useless as you only get to speak to a hopeless agent in the reservation department as the poor people in the complaints department apparently do not have phones! It is impossible to speak to an agent who is actually handling your claim. I can only repeat myself do not ever use this broker for car rental.

“Car del Mar rip off - did not provide car that was...”

We paid to have a car the equivalent of a Hyundai i20 which has seating for 5 people as per Car del Mar's website. Instead we got a Fiat Panda (seating for 4) complete with a dropping off number plate which we had to make a temporary fix to ourselves. We had to put our 2nd case on the back seat which could have been an issue if there had been back seat passengers. We complained to the car hire agent at Heraklion airport who said that an i20 equivalent was not available but would phone us when one was available and arrange for it to be delivered to our accommodation - this never happened. Emails were sent to Car del Mar but were never responded to. Tried again when we got home but they still have not had the decency to reply. How can a car that has been booked weeks in advance not be available when you come to pick it up? It is not right for a company to accept money for one thing and then provide a lesser thing pocketing the extra money.
