I hired a car via Car Del Mar on the website to pick up from Goldcar Europa it was supposed to be a Duke although I am aware that in the small print they can give you another vehicle. We didnt get a Duke although we were told he had one, then litterally 5 mins later informed us that he was mistaken and he didnt have one. Although, when we got outside there were 3/4 Dukes in the compound. We paid everything with a debit card on line and like others decided to take up the extra insurances to cover ourselves for all eventualities. We arrived at the airport it was dark and fairly late, when we got to the arrivals desk,, we were asked for our card which we booked with as we had to leave a deposit of 2000,00 euros but it could have been £2000.00. We were shocked to say the least, plus very worried about leaving such a large deposit. The card we used to hire the vehicle and insurance would not be excepted as it had to be a credit card.and we had used a debit card. My husband nor I had a credit card, we were then informed that we could not have a vehicle unless we had a credit card, plus we had to take out Gold Cars additional insurance again. We stated that we had already paid this to Car del Mar, the reply was that we should have hired the car direct with Goldcar and paid the insurance via them and not through Car del Mar. Hence, we ended up paying twice for a vehicle for insurance. What I dont understand is if you rent a car via Car del Mar the car hire company Goldcar obviously get payment for the vehicle or they wouldn't hire and advertise with Car del Mar. So, this brings me to asking why dont they accept the insurance we also paid out via Car Del Mar. This vehicle ended up costing us approx 500 euros for one week. We actually paid twice for all inclusivefull cover insurance. I had not seen my Son and my Grandaughters for 5 years who live in Portugal. This was possibly the last time we shall visit them being Pensioners and all this had left a nasty taste and feel that we have been treated disgracefully both by Car del Mar and Goldcar.
