Never again and wish I had read the reviews before booking. Larnaka, Cyprus: Arrived at the airport and followed airport signs to the off airport car hire bus stop and of course Avis do not pick you up from there you have to go to departures upstairs, no signage to tell you that. Arrived at car hire location and was given a car where the passenger door would not close so I refused it. Staff insisted it was OK but I insisted either they change the car or book me a taxi and cancel my booking. They reluctantly provided another car. Second car: Battered, dated and dented all over. I had to return the second car the following day as the car struggled in 2nd and 3rd gear and AC would not work properly. On return they were surprised I wanted to return this car as it was an upgrade to the one I had booked. Finally given another card (3rd now) which beeped all the time as it was due a service, engine coolant light was on, no back parcel shelf, I had to take the car to have the tires checked and topped up and the seat belts would not auto retract. (Luckily I didn't find out if they really worked)

On return you are expected to provide a receipt that you recently filled the car with fuel. Apparently an Avis policy which tells their customers we do not trust you so prove you filled it recently or be charged a full tank anyway. My response was why? Did you show me a receipt it was filled recently? The petrol gauge is there for a reason if it says full it’s full.

Final nail in the coffin is a surprise charge on my credit card when I return home. But reading various reviews and forums this is not much of a surprise but a common issue.

Excellent service Avis. Never again.

If you are a disabled customer you may want to avoid them, they use the disabled bays on the departure level as their pick up and drop off point and the worst part is that they have built over their disabled parking bays at their Avis offices to accommodate a cafe seating area. Very respectful!
