When you arrive to pick up your car they will try to sell you extra insurance in order to reduce the excess if you decline you run the risk of having to pay for any damage that is on the car regardless of wether it's you fault or not even if you weren't in the car at the time.a vehicle damage report is placed in the boot and they look at this to see if any additional damage has occurred.problem with this is if they have missed damage and it's not on the report you stand to pay for someone else's damage who used the car before you check for damage and if there is any get them to mark it on not only your copy but theirs as well as the one in the boot and get it initialed. Insist on seeing the terms and conditions before you sign for the vehicle.insist that the rental has been closed off and no damage has been found. If damage is found by them and it's not your fault do not sign an incident report form because under where you sign in small print it states you understand that you will be charged for the damage it's an admission of guilt. My advice to you is if you have to rent a car first and foremost don't use this company and if you do use them or any other before you rent take out excess insurance that can be purchased at a fraction of the Avis charge..ie direct car excess insurance or others are available. Remember Avis make more money from selling you insurance and charging you for damage than they ever do out of the rental itself.
