We hired a car in Portugal from AVIS - had no problems for the whole holiday. When we got back to Faro we handed over the keys and we unloading the car when the receptionist caem running out of the office saying 'the lock is broken' - before she had even reached the car or looked at it! We had used the remote lock the whole time and were unaware of any problem. She insisted that we write a report and later found out that we had 125.81 + VAT euros taken from our credit card.
I wrote to Avis about this as soon as we got back (14 June) but to date I have had no satisfactory explanation as to the amazing second sight of the Faro receptionist who could spot a fault on a car before even looking at it.
The customer care is non-existent so whilst they may well be fine if all goes well if there is a problem don't expect any help/response/explanation/communication whatosoever!
