The car was prepaid on a UK bank. The booking was made from outside the UK where I work. On arrival, the Europcar clerk ( Alamo is part of Europcar group), ran a credit check and told me there was insufficient evidence on their credit checking companies database that I lived at the address associated with my bank account ( it is my UK house). I explained that the card was new and the number was different. I asked what further proof would help. I had both parts of my licence and passport She said a utility bill. I am not in the habit of carrying my UK bills abroad, neither, if I had would they have been sufficiently recent. On this basis she said she coul not let me have the car that night.
That night I had travelled for 15 hours on two flights, returning to UK for my father-in-laws funeral. His grieving widow drove out to collect me with my wife (who does not drive). I hired the car so that I could relieve some of thir pressures - Alamo added to ithem.
To add insult to injury, the young clerk had no supervisor to contact, no procedures in place to help in any way. I asked her to cancel the reservation. She asked if I wanted to cancel the reservation. I had to explain that I was not cancelling, she and Europcar were. I asked her to make sure my money was refunded in full - she had no way to do this either. She said I had to approach the company I made the booking with ( it took all my resolve not to lose my temper). I explained that Alamo was the company I booked with.
What a farce! I am typing this at my UK home, the one Alamo says I don't have. 2 weeks ago I completed a 54 day rental with Herz, booked the same way - a delightful professional experience. Sadly they had no cars available on this occasion. I will never book with Alamo or it's associates again.

I have emailed customer services 5 days ago and rang them today (which I had to pay for). I was told it would take 10 days to resolves ...which I think is outrageous.
