I had no choice of rental firm, having booked through Jet2 Holidays - you get what they allocate to you depending on pick-up point, driver's age etc. We got Guerin. One plus point - the car we got was a Polo rather than the Peugeot 107 ordered, an unasked for upgrade. The rest is not good. We have often booked car hire through Opodo where you can't see which car hire company you are renting from until transaction completed. We have several times been allocated a car through Guerin in Portugal which is our worst nightmare. The queues are terrible, the staff sullen and often downright rude. The deal is (with car hire of six days or more) that you return the fuel tank empty and then have to pay 90euros to fill the tank. We always hire a small car and never use a full tank -... Unfortunately, I also have to report a miserable experience with Guerin. With two young kids, we queued for nearly two hours at the Lisbon check in desk, then, thinking that was it, we queued for a further hour and a bit to actually collect the car. As we were frustrated at the delay and were keen to get going, we (stupidly) did not inspect the interior and nor were we invited to do so. I had to drop the car early in the morning leaving 2 garbagebags on the floor. I dropped the key and left Portugal and Guerin. When I came home they took 129 euro from my account and the anwer to that was "speecial cleaning". When I found out what this cleaning was all about I could read at the invoice that they had cleaned the trunk!1 I had not used it. And cleaned the wheels. !!!! Simply the best! Once again I rented a car from Guerin in Lisbon Airport, everything was great, the service, the car was new with less then 100 km's and the staff (as always) wonderfull. As always I protected my self with full insurence with Guerin and even made the e-toll service. Make sure that the insurance, breakdown cover, fuel charges and provisions for the toll roads are covered before you sign up to anything. Booked online in October 2012 with a firm rentalcars.com including insurance cover which led me to a firm callled GUERIN at Faro. That's when the problems started. We expect to pay for the fuel we use but not with GUERIN. You MUST pay them 90 Euros for fuel or you don't get the car. There are no refunds regardless of the fuel you use. Whatever insurance... They deliver the car late. I paid for a Ford Focus and they tried to give me a Clio for the same price. Everyone was in a bad mood in the office 20 days after delivering the car i still dont have the money i paid for caution. When i called, they told me to talk with my bank!!! I confirm averything was said before for the car I rented in Madeira from Guerin; their policy about scratches is completely unacceptable. The car had a lot of barely visible scratches written down on the vehicle description. It was night when I took the car, and the park space was unlit, so there was no way to see the scratches. Guerin Madeira operate like the lowest form of clip joint. They will corner you for any finger nail scuff ( In my case to the tune of £ 128.00 GBP ) The car I rented was recorded on the acceptance sheet with numerous small dings to light scratches through to the metal. But took punishing delight to have found the said fingernail mark at a wheel arch which would have responded to a rub down with T-Cut. Avoid at all costs. Waited about half an hour for for the Navette then another 20 minutes at the front desk. Gave the car back, with the tank full of gas, and they however charged me 43 Euros for gas, without saying anything. (read more)

Absolutely awful. Bad attitude and well over an hour to get to the front desk. I had prepaid in full beforehand including the accidental damage waiver. €100 for fuel had to be paid before taking the car with no refund possible. I was told to bring car back empty.... How? Had to pay €2270 beforehand on a signed Visa slip to cover any damage even with the extra payment for the waiver. No sign - no car - no refund. Take the deal on their terms or go f*"# yourself. Word of advice, if you're willing to pay for something on the internet try to first read there terms before actualy paying for it.

I decided to buy full insurances because the reviews are very bad.I rent a car from Guerin - it was the best price for us - one way, second driver free and cross boarder pass in the price. Avoid at all cost! 1. I was queuing for over an hour and there were only 2 people serving customers. 2. They operate 0600-2100 but I had to return the car at 04:30, whilst the company was close, they said just leave the keys in the box. After lining up for 45 minutes while the three staff acted as if the customers were an interruption of their time, we were sent up, along with three other couples, to wait yet again for vehicles to be "sent up." When my car finally arrived I was told "this car is full of scratches" and when I pointed out the passenger wing mirror was broken and could not be adjusted i was told "you don't need it!" Everything about our dealings with Guerin was absolutely awful. They appear cheap when booking but this goes out the window once you go to pick up the car and they add the mandatory extras. €80 for fuel even if you don't use it. €1480 deposit on your credit card or a straight extra fee of €80 if you want to reduce that deposit to €300. Roadside assistance is extra as is a toll tag. There were 4 people in the queue in front of us and 2 people serving but it still took over an hour... (read more)

After arriving at the airport had to wait best part of 2 hours to get to the desk. No orderly que and people would just push in front. Fun times. The woman at the desk was clearly stressed and after questioning why I had to pay £1,500 Euro deposit on the car, just told me to pay it or f-off. Nice.. I booked the car through easycar to be informed that the rental company would be Guerin, upon arrival i walked passed all the other rental car companies where there was no queues to find Guerin had a huge queue (4 HOURS) I had travelled with another party of 9 people who booked through other hire companies they collected their cars and after waiting with me for an hour decided to to go on there way. Very pleased with this hire as none of the bad things associated with car hire occurred. There was a desk in the main part of the airport. There was no queue at the desk! (In School summer holiday) We were quickly dealt with at the car collection point. The fuel policy was bring it back with same fuel, which I think is the best policy (Some companies make you pay for a full tank which you may not use). Arrived at Faro airport after 7 hour journey to discover our car hire was through guerin . Desk empty but still took us 40 mins to hire car . Arriving on an international flight it took 2 and a half hours to get the car at Lisbon airport. There were only 4 people inthe line but the 2 peope attending were absolutely incompetent...never again will we use Guerin..when returning the car I complained and the comment was ...but Lisbon is where we rent most cars !!! I had to change the car in Faro due to a tyre problem and there the service was quick and efficient. However Guerin have lost a client and will get no recommendations from me. (read more)

Did not get the car we booked. Were scared into thinking we had to take out extra insurances as were told rental did NOT include roadside assistence. Staff surly to the point of rude. Huge queue to pick up car as only one man in car park doing the signing out. Fuel policy is robbery. A complete rip off as policy is 'take out full, return empty'. Avoid Guerin. I rented from them in early June and the service was shocking. Because the company has cut staff the office at the airport is often run by one person, who is stressed and unhappy. Planes land at Faro in waves, which means queues of ten and more are common at Guerin. You can wait for several hours before being served. I arrived at about 11:45pm at Faro airport, as the staff are so slow it was gone midnight before I was 'dealt' with incurring a 36.26 euro charge for 'out of hours'! I was then informed the car was full of diesel and needed to be returned as empty as possible as they were charging 100 euros not that a Megan's could possibly cost 100 euros to fill or that I could use it all even driving to Spain!! Arrived in Lisbon with car prebooked. Front desk had one person on and it took about three hours from queuing to pick up vehicle. Staff couldn't find the car couldn't find the keys car was unavailable because it was being washed then was out of fuel so needed refilling. Equipment inside car was broken. My experience with Guerin Rent a car was terrible: I queued more than 2 hours to have the keys of my car and then an additional hour to be in the position to have the car. Once I got it I realised that was old and damaged internally. I pointed it out to the staff but there was such a confusion that they wrote just something in portoguese and I signed it. Do not use Guerin, at Faro airport. I now have a bill for 361 Euros for a tiny stone chip, that I suspect was there when the vehicle was hired. The car was an upgrade but had many small dinks, scratched, dents, and chips all over it, too many to show them all on the form. Unfortunately, with so many issues I didn't check the windscreen. I just got back from faro and I was really impressed with Guerin Cars were newish and service was good. However NEVER book a car hire abroad without buying car hire excess insurance and this will cover the above eventuallity. Do not try to do it while you are there because they make loads of money on selling you this additional insuranse . (they usually charge about £15 per day if you buy this insurance from them).
Google car hire excess insurance and you can buy it before you go for about £2 a day...it is worth it, as most car hire companies have an excess of £1000, so you will end up paying dearly if you have any dings or scratches.

Next time make sure you read all terms and conditions before oyu rent a car...Otherwise you might argue without having reason to do so....That's what happen to you...
