Hired a car in a certain class, but after booking was forced to take one in a different class - a VW Golf to an enormous people-wagon, which was not what we wanted in an Italian city with narrow streets and limited parking. Bit shoddy and no comeback. We accepted the "upgrade" even though it was nearly midnight and we were travelling with very tired toddler and were told we had no choice but to accept that car. “Gave me a smaller car than I paid for!”

So I rented a car from the website for pick up at Miami airport, and I paid a premium price for a large car, a Ford Expedition, so that my group would be comfortable. When I arrived at Miami, I received a Toyota Sienna Minivan. I called Car trawler from the Alamo counter and talked to a customer service representative, who told me to either accept the car or pay 300EUR/400USD more for the car I had originally rented and after the rental was finished, they would refund the money. “Extra hidden charges”

I booked a 10 day hire to be picked up from Naples Airport from Sixt. I have dealt directly with Sixt before and not had any trouble - I only went with Car Trawler because the quote was £50 cheaper than the direct booking site. On arrival at the airport desk accompanied by family (including young children) SIXT checked their records and told me that the car had been booked but that there was NO insurance showing on the system. “Beware of Car Trawler rentals”

We booked through Car Trawler for a vehicle from County Car Rentals (now called Sixt Rent a Car) at Dublin Airport in May 2012. We paid Car Trawler for the rental with the expectation of paying for airport tax and gasoline on pickup of the car. On arrival at the County Car Rental desk we were advised that we also had to pay for optional Collision Damage coverage. It was more than double the cost of the car!
