We rented a car through the net from Zoom rent a car Rich,nod BC Canada for three weeks period for our visit to Vancouver BC.
upon arrival, there was not shuttle service contrary to the agreement. We had to call the rental firm and ended up taking a taxi to their workshop. The ride was under 20 minutes though as the shop Is in Richmond and the manager did cover the cost of the taxi.
We booked a medium size car and found a Corolla waiting for us. The car was full of scratches and dents. The tank was 3/4 full. One of the windshield wipers was damaged and did not clean properly. The wipers fluid was al,sot empty.
Yesterday, we had a flat and as we were very close to Zoom shop and it was after-hours where autoshops were closed, we stopped by Zoom shop expectig assistance. Instead, the manager first reaction was to claim we have to pay 10 $/ day extara due to the flat tyre. That would have amounted to $ 210. When I explained that this is unacceptable and unethical , the guy bcame abusive and very angry stating that he will call the car stolen and asked we leave the car behind but wouldn't return the remaining of our prepaid rental charge. The manager would not allow us to use his phone or call his supervisor for head office.
We were fortunate that an older gentleman from the neighborhood was friendly enough to allow us use his phone to call 911 who allowed us to take the vehicle to the remianig period of our rental.
As a world traveller, I have never had such an encounter even in thirld world countries. I am dreading the time I return the car and what this guy might have for us.
Be warned. This is a firm you do not want to do business with.
