“Ulysses Motorcycle Club”

Written on: 27/01/2013 by Bobe7316 (2 reviews written)

I am a 58 year old motorcycle rider. I went back to motorcycle riding after 30 years of not riding and have been riding for 3 years now. I looked around for some club that I could go on rides with and decided to give the Ulysses a go. The first thing that I had to do was pay 3 years membership up front before I could join and this cost me 125 dollars. I went with my lady friend to some of there once a month meals at a local hotel. We found them to be a VERY clicky group and mainly only talked amongst them selves leaving us to talk to each other. Once we were told to vacate our table and sit at another because it was reserved for some of there local friends even though there was no resevation notices on the table. After this affront we never went back again. I live in NW Tasmania and the people that belonged to the local branch of the Ulysses club all lived close to each other and knew each other in a strange way almost like a cult or something. The club was always emailing me about something or another and I found this very annoying as well. The rides were terribly slow and seemed to go on for ever. It really is just a club for old people. I am with a new and better club now.

Zircon2012's Response to Bobe7316's Review

I completed a PHD thesis on cults and motorcycle clubs in Australia. I mainly wrote about the Ulysses club as it is the biggest motorcycle club in Australia. They do have some Cult attributes. They have a charismatic figure that they look up too. Every body has a number and he is number 1. The club membership is exclusive and only for people over 40. The people over 40 have the money to spend on the club. The new members have to pay a large amount of money up front to join the club. New members are shunned until they start buying Ulysses merchandise.
