You're handing over thousands of pounds for a used car but what really got you was the fact they gave you coffee and biscuits?? You certainly bring a whole new meaning to the phrase "easily pleased".

“I collected a car from Big Motoring world a few days...”

Written on: 28/08/2014 by 1953Rhodes (1 review written)

I collected a car from Big Motoring world a few days ago and was very happy with the company. Salesmen were great and not pushy at all. They listened to what I had to say and provided me with a car that fit my description. Everyone was friendly and assisted me with any questions I had. When I went to collect my car at the collection site, I was welcomed by very friendly young ladies who assisted me with completing my paperwork and they handed me the car. I was also given a map and directions to… Read Full Review

So Big Motoring World were quite happy to supply you with an untaxed vehicle which you subsequently drove off in. Oops - perhaps not one of the best things to confess on an open forum.

Driving a car on public roads without tax is illegal unless the vehicle is being driven to a pre-arranged MOT test. Big Motoring World's "customer service" may offer fabulous coffee and biscuits, but they appear unable to ensure customers' vehicles are actually legal to drive on the road.

Perhaps the staff at Big Motoring World should attend a course in elementary road traffic law before handing over any more cars to gullible punters.

“DO NOT EVER BUY A CAR FROM THIS COMPANY!!! ”

Written on: 26/08/2014 by MacLeanuo483 (1 review written)

I will start this post the wrong way round for the simple reason of- DO NOT EVER BUY A CAR FROM THIS COMPANY!!! WHY? Well let me now explain. I went along to this company (CAN’T EVEN BRING MYSELF TO SAY THEIR NAME!!) looking for a 3 series tourer and a 5 series saloon, however and surprise surprise neither of these cars existed (given a story of lots of sales so they shift cars quicker than they can update their website and then looking through stock list, blah blah blah……and hence why… Read Full Review

Hi,

Thank you for taking the time to leave us your feedback.

We have investigated the matter at hand and we believe that we have located your case. From what we understand, your vehicle requires new parts which are on order and due for delivery. We apologise for the transmission issue you have with your vehicle. At Big Motoring World, we inspect and repair (if required) all of our vehicles before sale; as we strive to deliver quality pre-owned vehicles to all of our customers. Aside from this inspection process, you also got the car independently inspected, and the conclusion of the inspection stated that the fault was not present when you bought the car.

Unfortunately, with used vehicles (yours being a four-and-a-half years old with 80,302 mileage when purchased, and has covered 6173 miles post purchase) there is no way to predict when a new malfunction will occur. Like many other Car Dealers and Car Supermarkets, Big Motoring World offers a car warranty to assist customers with unforeseen breakdown; taking the pressure off their finance by contributing to the repair cost. In this case, the warranty you purchased is limited to £1000 per claim; that which the warranty company has authorised to pay out (minus the £100 excess which every customer has to pay).

If a customer has to pay the remaining outstanding balance of the repair bill, sometimes (depending on the circumstances) Big Motoring World can offer assistance by offering reduced labour rate. We would like to discuss this matter with you further, and see if our Big Assist team can be of assistance. Your profile indicates that you have been supplied a complementary courtesy car, whilst we carry out repairs. In the meantime, is there anything else we can assist you with?

Yours Sincerely,
The Big Motoring World Team

Hello

Thanks for your reply and yes I do understand the risks when purchasing a used car, especially a prestige and complexed car like a BMW, my comments were actually more directed at the time it's taken to resolve and the lack of communication and not so much the why it's happened anymore, I am sure (like me) that Big Motoring World wish this to be resolved as quickly as possible. I appreciate the efforts that are being taken to resolve this matter however I only wish these could be communicated to me rather than the constant chasing I have had to do and to be honest that is the main reason for my frustrations and my patience finally giving up and the (and very unusual for me) posting on Here. Anyway I don't wish to get involved In a tick for tack argument with Big Motoring World and actually just want the car I purchased back in April to be repaired and so I forward to settling this problem as I have been informed by your owner within the next 7 days.

Thank you

Right, I have now had enough time to calm down and write a considered response to the farce that is Big Motoring World customer service! I won’t go over the whole story again; you can read the previous issues and reviews at your leisure. Also, I deal with facts not fluffy bunny testimonials or “they are great and provided tea and biscuits would but another car etc. etc. rubbish, this is about after sales not the buying experience , if the car hadn't gone wrong then I too would have been generally happy with the purchasing process, it’s what happens when a car goes wrong is when ANY company shows its true colours! So……finally after waiting 10 weeks for the car to be repaired I am able to collect it, so I arrive at Vantage point at 3pm, should be a quick chat, pay the bill and off up the road ½ hr tops (how wrong could I be!!) I am told to wait while they prepare paperwork; 40mins later nothing, so I go back to the counter and ask what is happening? I am handed a telephone handset and its the Service Manager (as I have already said he was the only person there that actually gave me any sort of worthwhile information) anyway he is surprised I am collecting car!! Why he would say that when I have waiting 10 weeks to get the car back, but never mind!! He then goes on to say to me that he has (after much begging to his boss) managed to convince the owner of the business – to honour the Warranty payment, it was under threat due to bad review about them previously I had made, I don’t remember reading that reason for not paying out a claim in the small print eh?? but only if I either retract the bad review or write something nice, I had already agreed to do this and in fact already started to soften with subsequent comments, if I was happy with the outcome and as I have already written previously they did have to wait for a part so not completely at fault, anyway I am asked to go upstairs to an office with a computer and do it now “what now?” I ask, “Yes as we can only pay the warranty if you do it now” I am told, so do I have a choice?? I then spend nearly an hour trying to do as they ask but as it’s not my computer which has all my passwords saved for the website I am unable to do so, I didn’t refuse to it was I just plain simply couldn’t due to the security issues, I offered and actually wrote an email to the admin of the review site but this apparently was not good enough, it’s now 5pm! And I have a 2 hour drive home at rush hour! So finally I lose patience and basically tell them forget the £900 warranty payment, if they don’t trust me to write when I return home forget it! I am already loosing fortunes anyway (I’ll explain at the end) and just want to go home, so after much apologies from the girl and chap in the office I march back downstairs and by now steam is coming out my ears!!!!! I try to pay a £2044 repair bill on my credit card and am then told ”sorry we don’t take credit cards, we can only take either debit card or bank transfer” What company today doesn’t take credit cards for Christ sake? They then have the audacity to tell me that I could leave the car there and come back tomorrow with the money!!!! Yeah right 400mile round trip….OK!! So I now have to find two grand at what is now 5.30pm or I can’t take the car I have been waiting 10 weeks for!!! Anyway and fortunately I managed to find the money thanks to my Mum and various other means of quick finance and pay the bill and leave, it’s now 6pm!!!
And for the record there were some decent people waiting for their cars that had also gone wrong with some big issues so I was not alone!
So, to summarise its quite simply the worst experience of buying a car I have EVER HAD from beginning to end.
If you are considering a car from Big Motoring World I suggest you and unlike me do your homework, Google them, read the reviews about after sales and not the buying experience, to help you here are the facts:-
9th April- purchased the car (530d SE saloon 10 plate)
Car £17k
Buyers fee £142
Warranty (that didn’t pay out although it was approved and is confirmed on their reply on the Review site!) 36months £912.50
17th July - Breakdown
18th July - My local garage costs £151.20
Into Big Motoring world 21st July
24th September - Collect car and pay invoice £2044 and then immediately part exchanged for a new BMW at my trusted local Main Dealer for £14k
Total cost 20,250
So the total loss for 5 months use of the car that I purchased from Big Motoring World which spent 3 ½ months in their workshop is £6250!!!!!!! And that doesn’t include HP payments during this time, so make your own minds up…………….fortunately the car went straight to my local Main dealer that evening (as we didn’t want it back home) where at 8pm they were waiting for me to arrive, they took the car and thank God hope to never see it ever again!

As my friends have told me it’s a learning experience and if I never see or visit Big Motoring World ever again it would still be too soon!

I have just had a conversation with Big Motoring World’s Service Manager and to be honest he has done a great deal to improve the situation I posted above out of anger!, whilst I still haven’t got the car back he explained very eloquently the reasons for the delays and assured me what they are doing to resolve the situation for the best for everyone, he told my why it’s taken so long and as I have said previously communication is the real problem here and I now am a lot happier, he explained the faulty part in question is on back order from Germany and unfortunately not within their control (I now get that!) so please Big Motoring World if I can offer just one piece of advice …talk to your customers and keep them informed before they think the worst of you! At least I have a courtesy car to get around in while I wait.
Anyway thanks for your explanation and hopefully this problem will be concluded in the next week or so to the best of all involved.

“Thanks Sophie!”

Went to buy a car from BIG Motoring World and found the one that I had seen online. Miles were good and car looked in decent condition so agreed to buy and went ahead with process. Had car 2 days and had a tyre pressure warning light showed up. Phoned the customer service team number and got put through to Sophie. She was great and explained that the system just needed to be reset. She talked me through how to do it while on phone and the car has been spot on since then. Great service from… Read Full Review

“Good stock, could improve experience”

Written on: 20/08/2014 by Golfhosey19 (1 review written)

Good choice as large number of vehicles in BMW range, I bought 5 series. Website should be used as guide of what is in stock. It's not kept up to date, I have my car 3 weeks now and it still appears on website. If you are willing to be flexible with spec you will find something equivalent, all well minded cars most with FSH, details of which is not available on website. The staff I met didn't appear to have great interest in promoting a positive image of the company, complaining about other… Read Full Review

A week after colleting my car from the Snodland location my engine management light came on. I was furious so rang them straight away They were very apologetic and booked my car in for the next day. They provided me with a courtesy vehicle and was left a voice mail a few days later to say that my car had been fixed. “Pretty Good Actually”

Written on: 18/06/2014 by DavidAGD (1 review written)

I bought a 630i convertible here two years ago and when the fuel injection pump developed a fault two months later, they were brilliant. Courtesy car was offered immediately and the pump replaced at no cost to me. Last month, I bought a 520d touring from them and unforeseeably, the timing chain snapped taking out parts of the valve gear and cam mountings. After a brief delay, the car was recovered and after inspection, a reconditioned engine was fitted. The car was handed over having been… Read Full Review

Sorry, this is not in no means an attack on you just to bring to light something for other viewers to consider. Buying a used car is always going to have its problems, however what is the chances of buy two used cars from the same dealer and having two serious issues with two months on both? Before I had company cars I had 5 used cars which I bought privately and none had any issues all the time I had them, so given those odds, you would be more less likely to have a problem if you bought a car privately than you would if you bought it from these guys.

Just saying
