Do Not Use - 2 months after my holiday I do not have a refund of £1250 deposit. They are claiming £100 for emptying a toilet cassette that I had emptied and cleaned, and definately not used only 15 mins before returning to the hire yard. The southampton team were nice, but the admin is incorrect and charging for services they have not o provided. When I tried to discuss they 'chat lines' were terminated mid conversation, and there is no escalation proceedure for complaints. I will be looking into legalities of service and breach of contract. Nursling, Mill Lane, Southampton.

“DO NOT BOOK!”

DO NOT BOOK WITH THIS COMPANY OR ANY OF ITS 8 OTHER GUISES. They are running this new thing whereby Xmas bookings are being cancelled and then they go quiet. I have a transcript of a chat today where I was repeatedly told to claim a chargeback from my bank which I'm in the process of doing. There will be an investigation and then a resolution. Meanwhile my £837 remains in limbo. The whole process has been choreographed from the start with extras added along the way. I had a bad feeling but never thought it would lead to this. The main name seems to be Unbeatable Hire Ltd. Search Companies House, get to the company then look for the names of the directors (can't put them on here) then look on the charges register and you will find the home address of one of them – she is also the company secretary. It looks like they have about 500 motorhomes that have been paid for by individuals who don’t realise they don’t actually own them. I’m calling Trading Standards next & I suggest we all do the same. I think there will be hundreds of us caught in this. Maybe we should start a FB group to communicate, maybe a demo at their base…

“Disgusting service, do not return deposits ”

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY !!!! Absolutely disgusting company, Motorhome had numerous faults and items missing. The worst part is they do not return you £1250 deposit, I have been chasing every week for over 5 months now and still nothing. It also appears they do this for hundreds of their customers dating back over several years of which they blame their system. This is clearly not the case, they are just holding on to money that isn’t theirs.  DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY !!!!

“Avoid at all costa”

If I could give 0 stars I would! From the very beginning began to regret this booking. After much searching these guys 'seemed' to have a good price and were able to offer more flexible bookings (ie not a week). I made the booking and was instantly bombarded with texts, about how I could upgrade my experience...for example pay for an electric cable? Really???? This stuff should be included as standard!! I ignored most of the texts and actually blocked the number in the end because it was almost daily. Then comes the issue of insurance, you couldn't take out your own, you could either use their extortionate insurance or pay a large (£1000 deposit, plus admin fee!). We took this route and had £1250 deducted from our credit card (this also included a damage deposit). Thank god we put this on our credit card and we have had to fight and battle to get this back. I understood the terms were 28 working days, so made contact and requested the refund after this time. It all seemed fairly straightforward, all online and confirmation received that i would get my payment in 3-5 days.....NOTHING, so chased again (via online chat as they don't have phone lines!) to be told there was an issue and it was with the credit team..I then had to raise a case which could take up to 10 days to review. It was farcical, the online chat are rude, blunt and unhelpful. As I said above they don't have phone lines so you cant speak with anyone. In the end we raised a Section 75 case with our Credit Card provider to eventually get this money back. All in all I would not recommend this company to my worst enemy. Please do yourselves a favour and look elsewhere

“Don't be rash, save your cash. Rubbish company.”

Please, please, do not part with a penny of your money until you have read all the reviews for this company and its associates. WE LOST OUR DEPOSIT. I had used them some time ago and was naïve enough to think we would be dealt with in a fair and honest, manner. Not so. In fact, they even got our rental dates wrong, but still seem unwilling to refund the deposit, although the mistake is theirs. I have booked an appointment, face to face, with the local Trading Standards Officer. If you’re thinking of renting from National Motorhomes, or one of their numerous subsidiaries, or affiliated companies, (UNBEATABLEHIRE, HIREBOOKING CENTRE, MOTORHOLME and more) don’t be surprised when the additional charges start adding up. They will turn what you had assumed was a cheap holiday into a very, very, expensive one. By the time you have added up all their deceitful surcharges, for items you would have assumed necessary and essential for travel, you’ll be wanting to cancel. If you do, don’t expect your money back without a fight. Would you like a proper introduction to your rented motorhome, with an explanation of how everything works? You’ll only get one, if you have purchased their “handover package”. Expect to watch TV whilst you’re away? PROVE you have a TV licence, or pay a fee. Expect to use their chemical toilet? Not unless you’ve paid for the chemicals . . . and the toilet paper. Want to refill the water tank? You had better have paid to rent the water hose, or brought your own. Parking a car when you pick-up? Oops! Another big cash payment, gone. Motorhome not parked on the level, so you can get a good night’s sleep? Well you should have paid to hire the levelling chocks. How silly of you! Want a cup of tea? Check you did buy their over-priced, gas bottle, and that they have supplied the necessary kitchen “accessories” in their “kitchen pack” you were invited to purchase. And the list goes on. Don’t even rely on their Insurance Excess Waiver. It costs a non-refundable £24 a day. That’s £192 for a week, which, according to them has 8 days, in it! And it doesn’t even cover you for many, many, possible incidents. If there is a loophole, these snakes will wriggle through it. Or choose another type of holiday, altogether. My advice is to avoid this company and its “cheap” offers, like you would avoid the plague.

“Terrible service! Avoid!!!!!!!!”

This company offers attractive deals although when you read the terms and conditions you soon realise the costs can escalate very easily. There is also no way of speaking to someone in the company, you have to email them and wait till they call back, if you miss the call like I did a few times you have to go through the email process again. They only give a 24hrs cooling of period. The also hold your £1250 deposit for 28 working days then go through a process of getting you to confirm amount due back then you need to wait a further 5 working days before you get it back. I had to wait 2 1/2 months to get the payment back!!!! I would avoid booking through this company ever again! The full process stressed me out and I did not enjoy the experience at all as I was worrying about the costs that would incur, we did not use the smelly bathroom and the motor home was not to a good standard. The seating area that should have converted to a bed did not fit well either, luckily we did not requir the use of it.

“Stay clear ”

We decided to hire from them in December, special offer £72 for 3 nights!! As they say "too good to be true" This very quickly raised to £198. Once you have paid your initial payment you then very quickly get e mails for all the hidden extras that you cannot avoid. Toilet pack, kitchen pack, mileage, insurance, gas, etc etc etc. The motor home itself was very tired, cracked sink in bathroom, tv not working told to go and buy new remote,seam split on chair, cracks in plastics, but we could have paid extra they said for an upgrade!! Also charge £6 per day for your car in the compound whilst you have the hire. Trying to get deposit back was a nightmare. 28 days just in case there was any outstanding parking or speeding fines. When this did not arrive you are then told it is 28 "working days" and then you still have to chase. They will not speak to you onn phone once the hire is over only via e mail. I eventually got it back after threatening to go to trading standards. Avoid at all costs.

“So Many HIDDEN not optional extras!!”

Just put all costs upfront!! The headline price much like budget airlines is cheap, however there are loads and loads of hidden extras that just keep coming. I rented in October and had a lot of issues with the van. It was very difficult to get hold of anyone to assist with issues. Ended up having to cut short our short break. Still waiting for deposit!!

“Refund of deposit”

I rented a motorhome back in March, just before Easter. The check in and check out process at the Barnsley depot was fine and I was immediately told the vehicle had been signed off and that I would receive my full deposit back. The vehicle its self turned out to be missing essential crockery and I was sold an additional gas canister that I didn't need, but that is incidental. I hadn't received back my deposit in 4 weeks so I contacted NMH and was told 28 working days which took me up to the 8th May. By the 16th, I'd received nothing so I contacted them again, was reminded of their policy and told the deposit was only returned upon request ie going online and completing the correct form - they sent me a link). I did this, still nothing. Finally, at the beginning of June, and having read other reviews, I threatened legal action. I received my deposit back yesterday. I would encourage everyone to ensure you are familiar with the refund process ie you have to request it. It may save a whole load of grief.

“Never use this company”

Would never touch this company again and AVOID AVOID AVOID. Their staff are extremely rude once they have their money from you. I too am now nearly 3 months down the line and still no refund of the damage deposit, even though they admitted that there’s no damage or extra costs etc. I am now going through the small claims court and the bank to get the money back. If you are affected by this then get in touch with trading standards, watchdogs, your bank and anyone else that you think should know. By the way, it’s obvious they employ people to give a 5 star feedback and reviews. It’s usually a review about having a conversation and not the physical rental. They should be banned from trading

Afternoon. Eventually the credit card company pulled through and returned the money. I found if you call them (national motorhomes) up and threaten with court action, they soon action your claim.

Do not let them say ‘I’ll send an email to the claim team’ as in two weeks time they’ll say ‘have you requested in writing for your deposit to be return’.


As soon as your 28 day period hits I would call, email, write letter and everything short of a pigeon carrier to communicate the fact you want your money!

“National Motorhome Hire Review Byley Middlewich”

We hired a Motorhome for three nights on 15/05/18 from Moss lane Byley we found the staff friendly and informative. The Motorhome had been cleaned to a very high standard inside and out. I was taken around the Motorhome inside and out and shown all the knocks and scratches which he also had marked on a diagram on a tablet. After I was satisfied I signed his tablet. On return he did a thorough check and he was happy there was no further damage, I then signed off. It would be better if there was a microwave in the Motorhome instead of the high level grill. I will wait to see if I get my deposit back before further review.

“DEPOSIT NOT REFUNDED”

Campervan experience was good but deposit has never been refunded, apparently if they give you a campervan that’s just been returned from getting its engine “repaired” and it breaks down while you have it on hire they charge the customer for the RAC call out. We didn’t even get to start our weekend break for almost 3 hrs and we returned it with more diesel than what we received it with. We were going to hire again over summer holidays but it will not be with this company. After reading most reviews we kind of knew we weren’t getting our deposit returned. If they ask for deposit don’t expect it back.

“Problems obtaining refund of deposit”

At the start of the process, National Motorhomes seemed like a well run company. However, when I collected the motorhome I wasn't allowed time check it fully because the manager wanted to close the depot early. The motorhome was sound mechanically but I found a number of faults in the living area. I took photos of all the damaged and faulty parts and they agreed to repay my deposit in full, without any problems. The deposit is supposed to be refunded after 28 working days, which equates to almost 6 weeks, but I still haven't received it. 44 working days (about 9 weeks) have now elapsed. They claim that they have had problems with their web site and they had to make the refund manually, but I haven’t received it. I've now phoned my credit card company and will take further action if that doesn't work. Don’t hire from National Motorhomes unless you are prepared to wait several months for your deposit refund!

“Very good motorhome”

Picked up a motorhome for a 7 day break in the Highlands. Got to depot a little early but was dealt with very quickly and efficiently and in no time I was on the road. No problems with the vehicle which was well equipped. Upon returning the van again end dealt with in a friendly and efficient manner.

“Deposit refund not returned for 3 months”

National Motorhome customer service is really terrible. When I collected motorhome I’ve taken photos of all damaged parts. And when returned they said I have damaged it. Then I showed photo, they weren’t happy to agree with it. Then deposit refund it took nearly 3 months. It says refund takes upto 28 days. But company’s deposit holding third party somehow lost deposit and their system crashed and they couldn’t refund. Then they refunded manually but I haven’t received. After tons of emails and phone calls and complaints to credit card company and financial ombudsman they have finally refunded my deposit after 11 weeks. Don’t hire from National Motorhomes or you pay more!!!

“SHOULD CALL THEMSELVES RYANAIR NATIONAL MOTORHOMES”

this company need to call themselves ryanair national motorhomes , they get you with really polite poeople on their chat on a cheap rate then when you book the add ons start, we booked for a 3 day weekend to start friday booked a ferry for 12pm which we thought was reasonable and were then told you cant collect motorhome before 3pm so first day is lost then you have to return before 11am on the third day which is crazy. when you get your final price with all the add ons they then hit you with the £1250.00 deposit you need to add this to the cost of the hire as you have no chance of getting it back it has been 8 weeks now and 100s of emails and calls that they dont answer now taking it legal, luckily we paid by credit card and have kept all correspondence so will be getting it back from card company , they do say the deposit has been done but that's not true, oh and just to top it all off they deduct a £12.50 admin charge from the deposit that you are never likely to get anyway. look at all the other reviews and DONT GO NEAR THEM UNLESS YOU ARE HAPPY TO INCLUDE THE DEPOSIT IN THE PRICE .

“AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE NATIONAL MOTORHOMES!!!”

NO MORE THAN A HEATED TENT! We returned home early from a 4 night booking having been given a motorhome with no functioning water supply. So NO SHOWER, NO TOILET & NO WORKING SINK. We had been corresponding with technical team via email/text and phone calls since arriving at campsite with no success. No matter what they talk us through the water appears to be blocked...hardly convenient when travelling with young child. Speaking to customer services is a nightmare and to top it off I am now reading horrific reviews on line re fight to ensure refundable deposit is repaid. When I made original email enquiry the sales person chased me daily to confirm booking, funny now they won’t touch my frantic calls with a barge pole. Definitely would recommend avoiding this company and using possibly more local independent motorhome company. Now they have offered a pathetic £5.00 a day compensation?!?!!!!! I will fight this all the way and don’t start me on the uphill battle I no doubt face chasing “refundable” deposit back....if everything I read now about them in true. AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE!!!

“Be very careful”

Absolutely shocking. If only I'd read the reviews on this company before I rented a motorhome from them during the school holidays last October! After more than 100 phone calls & e mails we still haven't got our £1265 deposit back, even though we agreed that the vehicle was returned in excellent condition. Call their bookings line & they answer immediately but start talking about returning your deposit & you won't see them for dust. We've made a formal complaint to our credit card provider so hopefully they can help us. DO NOT BE TEMPTED TO INVOLVE YOURSELF WITH THEM I noticed that this business is operated from a particular address so it's worth checking the other 15 businesses which are linked to the same place.
