With your opinion you stand pretty much alone. Do yourself a favour and buy a really good amplifier and fine speakers. The weak point in your system may be the cheap integrated amp. Go for a better model or upgrade straight to a pre/power amp combo. This CD player was elected "Product of the Year" by dozens of European hifi journalists - not without a reason. If it sounds terrible in your ears, it is most probably not the player that's to be blamed. By the way, you can't compare a former 500 GBP player with machines like the mentioned Linn which cost twice as much or more. Sure, you can always benefit from a bargain offer on the 2nd hand market, but then again the Marantz might be a steal for, say, 200 GBP or even less.

I agree. I think CD63KI (and even 63SE) can compete with later models CD17 and 17mk2. These Players almost sound analogue to me. I am still using one of those!

I must say that I'm more inclined to agree with guest's opinion (if I understand it). It sounds like he's quite sure that he can hear a difference with the amp/speakers he's got.

"Product of the Year", "hifi journalists"!! I'd not take too much notice of that. I once hung on every word that the 'experts' said, even if they did contradict each other, and even themselves. But those days are over.

The 63 KI is a moderately good player (among many), but nothing more.
