I've just passed with VBS so I'm still smiling whilst writing this.
The most important thing for me when I was choosing a school wasn't safety ( hold on before you judge) it was the welcoming feel from the instructors. The team made asking about safety and the style of instruction easy - they wanted me to grill them. They wanted me to ask tough questions about pass rates and the quality of the bikes. Nothing was too much trouble.
Once we had all of that stuff out of the way, the learning was easy. I did my CBT with a mixed group - I was the oldest at 47.
Mod 1 after about 3/4 morning lessons was a breeze , no faults and plenty of pats on the back
Mod 2 today was a bit more nerve wracking but my instructor was brilliant, told me I would pass - told me how I would pass and then shook hands afterwards and just smiled. I'm a bit sad to not be part of the gang actually so I'm going to do some advanced stuff.

I am impressed that you enjoyed your time with us and that you were made to feel at home. We do like to create a "family" atmosphere where learning is a pleasure and, therefore, easier.
Don't be sad at having passed first time, you are always welcome to drop in for a brew any time.
Enjoy your riding and... be SAFE out there.
All the best
