Friendly Excellent Training!

Having done my CBT a year and a bit previously, I was desperate to get my license sorted.

I contacted North London Motorcycle Training (NLMT) after a recommendation from a friend and organised what is probably the most disjointed DAS course they've ever ran. I had no holiday days left from work so I stretched it out over a number of weekends, this wasn't a problem for them, although it did mean exposure to different instructors which I'm not sure would happen if you did a 4 or 5 day DAS course Mon-Fri stylee. I think seeing different instructors actually helped as each has a slightly different style, it was possible to take some tips from them all.

Anyway, on with the nitty gritty:

I found Debbie (and all the girls I spoke to) in the office to be extremely helpful and friendly, being from the North, there is a perception that Southeners can be very stern, however this couldn't be further from the truth with this lot.

Having organised my course, I turned up early on a Saturday having completed my 21 tube stop marathon (yes it's worth it), and began my lessons with Joe. Apart from some sturdy boots (I just wore Cats) and some jeans, everything else is provided, they have hemlets, jackets, visi-vests, waterproof trousers and even leather jackets knocking about (I'm not sure if they were just for people testing that day).

I found the instruction I received with NLMT to be very comprehensive, I already had a car license for 10 years and found a lot of useful reminders in there, along with tips for finesse when riding the bike.

As my confidence with the bike grew the instructors pushed us further onto faster roads and also around more challenging areas in towns etc.

In preparation for the Module 1 test we also spent a lot of time in a car park and also in the actual test centre so we were familiar with the process (although this didn't help with match day nerves).

The Module 2 test for me came almost a month and a half after Module 1, so I was worried, I need not have been. We went out with Pablo on the day and he helped with a few pointers before the test, making sure I was confident (and able). The test felt a lot faster than the 40mins and I wasn't half as worried as with Module 1, I think this was due to the overall training from NLMT.

I'd recommend them to anyone in the area, I've not used other people (except for my CBT) but I found the staff (in and out off the office) to be really down to earth nice people.
