Been with them for quite some time but now looking to change. Dont give you enough space to write complete name of comapny down then payment rejected as name is incorrect. people at Santander said we know this is an issue but up to Technical department to correct it 2 years later and we are still waiting. The do not care about you or your business and thier Business accounts are a joke and expensive. Don,t waste you time and look elsewhere you will have an easier life.

“AWFUL EXPERIENCE”

I have had a Santander account for my business for 18 years (Previously it was Alliance and Leicester before Santander took them over) In November 2022 they summarily closed my account,without notice or reason having made me ,and my business partner expend quantities of time on AML verification which included listing all my assets in detail along with a plethora of other items that were way beyond the normal scope of AML procedure. What a waste of time! Since closure of the account they have failed to return my funds 76,000 GBP despite 6 weeks elapsing. I have made numerous appeals and wasted countless amount of time on phone calls to a series of hapless agents in their complaints dept! I have been told variously,that a cheque was in the post,that a cheque has been lost and cancelled,that a new cheque is in the post,that a bacs transfer is being done to my nominated other account,that they can t actually do a BACS transfer......and so the saga goes on. This is deeply stressful and could have caused operational and reputational damage to my business which has a flawless credit history. Myself and my business partner also have top credit scores and are full UK citizens domiciled in the UK and with full UK tax status. Santander are a total disgrace and should never be allowed to treat people like this. Please avoid this strange organization!They have revealed a dimension of incompetence and callousness that I have only ever read about existing in 3rd World countries.

“The worst bank ”

The worst bank to open business account or to remove signatory from the account When I open the accounts the head of accounts asking me to fax the paper work I did that 5 times and then he realised that he asked me the wrong paper work Now I wanna to remove a signatory from the account and here we go again Stay away

We opened a Santander business account 5 years ago. We have simple banking needs (no cash, hardly any cheques, just online payments). For this it's all worked smoothly enough. When I have had a query, it's generally been answered OK. That changed this year. OK - I've made some allowance for delays many companies experienced this year and got used to waiting a 2-3 days for an answer, but the problems are bigger than that. We were trying to get an answer about an issue which did not involve any detailed account or transaction information. Sent a secure messagem, but I was directed to their phone service instead. That took ten minutes to get through all the while recorded messages trying to get me to go to use Secure Messaging or the website. When I did get through to someone, it was an answer that could have been given by secure message. Tried to follow up on that and just got another response telling me to call instead. Couldn't even reply this time as they have now terminated the secure message service altogether. So now you have to use online chat. I don't mind online chat, but of course, it's chatting with a bot which means when you have something that's not run of the mill you're expected to jump through hoops before you can get near a person. Then there's no way to continue that dialogue if the issue is not resolved on one chat - you start from scratch again. Frankly, this poor level of service does not justify the monthly fee which is slightly higher than other banks.

“POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE”

Santander blocked my business account three days ago with no notice. This is the second time in three years when Santander damages my business. I called their customer service and complaint department. I have an impression that they employ parrots. They all say the same 'We apologise but we cannot give you information why your account blocked, you have to wait'. How long one week, month, year? I explained that I have contracts, containers at port, I am bearing huge losses. They do not want to know anything. If your bank does not care that it makes its client bankrupt what king of bank it is. I do not recommend this bank to anyone!

“Poor Service”

Extremely poor service. Trying to close down a business banks account and after 2 years of jumping through hoops I still haven't jumped through enough! Just a relatively small amount I need to pull out but everything conveniently "not enough". Disappointing and would stop me having anything to do with Santander either business wise or personally.

“Simple, cheap and brilliant!”

I'm a sole trader small business with <£150k turnover. I bank 99% via online DD in, BACS out. Cash deposits and the odd cheque goes through local branch or via the post office. I've banked with Santander for over 10 years now and have found it to be low cost and really good. The website is fantastic and simple to use. If you are a small service based sole trader I highly recommend!

“Very poor app and online service ”

They got very primitive app. No Face ID. Everytime you have to enter your password and security no. After 3 failed attempts you are locked out. You will get your password through post. You cannot add a new payee usung app. Total nightmare. Opening account wasn’t easy either. For every contact with the customer services it takes them 72 hours to resolve your query. It took me 6 weeks to get an account. Stay away.

I've just opened a brand-new business banking account with Santander. Just logging onto the website for the first time, I followed all the instructions to the letter & it blocked me out. The phone number on the page is incorrect (message tells you to redial with a new number). I've been told that the Santander website doesn't work too well with other operating systems - I'd be better off if my laptop had Microsoft explorer!!!! Well i'm sorry if my 6 month old laptop isn't compatible. a new log in will take 6 days!!!!! so now I have to wait an extra week to log-in I thought the co-op bank was poor - now I'm not so sure..... think long & hard before you move to santander

“"Online" Business Banking is a Joke”

Started a business account with Santander 3 months ago. Having had an issue connecting to the online banking and authenticating - probably a poor internet connection dropping - I called their "customer service" team to get a reset, which is done by post and can take 4-10 days to snail mail a new code. Apparently this happens a lot says the chap on the phone! What a joke, they know about it but wont do anything to change it! I'm not allowed expletives in this review, but I can tell you I was fuming! This is a business account!! How on earth is anyone suppose to conduct business when faced with such an archaic operating model. They will only send to your registered business/home address so heaven help you if your on a business trip! Having now seen all the reviews of the dire "customer service" I think I need to swap banks - Barclays??

“Failure of basic services”

Every time I try and use the Visa card associated with Business Current Account, fraud prevention systems are activated and the card PIN locked. It is impossible to use the card for any transactions, as each attempt delivers these results. Cheque clearing times are variable for no apparent reason, made worse by the fact that I am forced to use ATM machines in-branch to pay in cheques rather than over the counter, adding 2 days to the process. I inquired over the telephone about a modest overdraft facility on the account(£1500) in order that I could start on a signed £20,000 contract, which I offered to fax to the bank. I was laughed at! Overall, an absolute shambles. I am a fool for not having switched banks already.

“Online Corporate banking designed by a monkey”

I switched our corporate account from Clydesdale as the service was deteriorating, unfortunately despite the advertising this banks online system was designed by a team of wombats that have no idea what a business wants and a backup team that are themselves totally frustrated by its limitations. Bulk payments are only paid twice a day! Faster payments arrive sometime in the future and payments to Santander accounts take longer than to other banks. I have spoken to many assistants none of which can answer my questions and infuriatingly teat me like a child and me tell lies (Not their fault they have themselves been told lies). The management team need to take a real hard look at their clients needs and change their ways. I am off to Lloyds.

“I'm leaving”

Personal and business app is appalling you can't transfer payments between the two. I paid money in via post office and the cash got lost between the post office and Santander. I've now been told it could take up to six weeks to retrieve the cash due to protocol and procedures. The staff have been of no help whatsoever with different members of customer services giving conflicting advice. They are loosing my current and business account dealings.

“New Businesses DO NOT TOUCH!!!!!”

Business Start Up Account - Our experience with the bank has been horrific. We are a new business and applied for our account and were told we would receive notification of this within 3 days - didn't happen. Chased and chased the progress, after two months they said they were progressing with it. Then got a phone call to say I needed to complete an application form, said I had already done this, they said I only needed to sign it to get my overdraft approved. The actual form required all sorts of evidence to go with it from accountants, tax office, nightmare. Sent it back - didn't hear, raised a complaint. Finally got confirmation that it had been opened. Then was told I needed to send through another application approval for the overdraft and that would take another 7 - 10 days. Too many other countless errors made by them. Caused no end of stress and additional work. Please stay clear!!!

“Online system useless”

Steer well clear! After the balls up setting up my business account up (took nearly 2 months) it's been up and running for 2 months now. The online portal is so bad it makes me want to cry. I use this for my personal saving too. Last week I got locked out of the online business portal. Had to wait 4 working days to receive the new password in the post (received today). Just tried in various browsers to log in with new details and create new password through the wizzard....get to the last step, click Continue and boom..nothing...blank screen. Has done this 4 times. Called up the number on Businesss FAQ page (which actually directs you through to personal banking tech support!). Was told by nice lady that she'd have to pass it over to 'the technical team' and they'd call me within 48hrs. Absolutely terrible. Shall be moving my business to a different bank, no sooner than I can fill out the application forms!

“Utterly useless in almost every possible way”

I'm unfortunate to have a hand full of business accounts with Santander. Up until the last few years I've always found them fairly easy to deal with, polite in the phone and knowledgeable staff. Since then it's quite the opposite. They switched me to "Corporate" for a few months, what a disaster that was, some inept fool sat in my meeting room, no idea who I was, why he was there, no idea what facilities I use, and zero product knowledge. Threw him out. The online banking I find ok, but now every time you try and make any changes to the accounts, adding a signatory, removing something etc they fail miserably. You don't hear from them unless you chase them up. You can't speak to the department "who deals with that" (whatever it is you're trying to do). Awful service!

“online banking nothing but trouble”

I had my business account with Alliance and Leicester for years, online banking had no problems, ran smoothly as it should. Santander took over and it has gone down hill rapidly, their service has gone from poor (from day one) to terrible. I continually have problems accessing my account and transferring money. It has got the stage where I am going to move my account to another bank. Avoid them like the plague!

“Gave up on getting the account opened”

After a month of me chasing them to open an account, gave up and cancelled. They kept giving a different reason every time for why the account was not opened. Kept changing what paper work that needed to be send, because they had changes their procedures. They never told me there was a problem, unless I phoned to ask what was happening. Thinking of cancelling my personal bank account with them after this!
