“Virgin Super Slow Broadband.”

Written on: 30/12/2011

I was happy with the service for about a month and then my internet became completely unreliable and painfully slow, it has a habit of cutting off every few mins, although it will say I have full signal it will say access unavailable. The first few times I called I was told to go on to an address they gave, fiddle with a few things and hey presto it worked again for a few weeks before repeating, each time the problem free period in-between decreased, eventually after jumping through about ten hundred hoops I was told to go get myself a screw driver and start unscrewing my phone socket from the wall? I am not at all within my comfort zone doing this and fully believed I was going to electrocute myself or break my phone line, so tried everything to get round this, several months later and with being told Virgin would not be able to do anything more until I did this I surrendered with full assurance from the telephone advisor that there will not be lots of wires just another socket. I got out my screwdriver (actually just the head as the handle thing had another bit in and it was well and truly stuck, told you I am rubbish at this sort of thing) Can anyone guess what happened when I did unscrew it? (other than putting my back out cramming myself between the cabinet and the wall that is) when I opened it up lots and lots of lovely wires fell out!!! I have since been told then someone who knows more than myself on this subject (not hard) that there should have been a socket there and I should not have had my internet fitted with out a port that had this socket (who fitted this socket and got it activated, you say?? you got it!! Virgin. Can't wait for them to tell me its the person who fitted the socket wrong fault, as I will happily remind them they so kindly charged me for the privilege of them coming and screwing it well and truly up when I first moved in and made the terrible mistake of taking out their service.)
I am paying a stupid price for their "faster" service when I have, on occasions, considered taking out a chisel carving my message out on a chunk of stone and having it handed over to the person I need it sent to via a human chain. More effort but just as time consuming! Their service is so over subscribed that they have no hope of giving the speeds they claim to provide and they surely realise this, I am convinced that the reason I get kicked off, is when someone else in the same area as me goes on-line, obviously they cant tell me this so they invent more and more hoops to keep me occupied and unable cancel my subscription (also in the beginning despite the fact I was told I had 14 days to cancel as although I was a customer at my previous address it was for a completely separate part of the company (I am now national) when I called up within this time they said it was 7 as I was a previous customer and I would have to continue to pay for 50% of the service which was as much as the full fee of any other provider. I feel I am being completely ripped off when I am paying more than twice the amount as friends a family when they are getting superior speed and service and it is only exacerbated every time I try to use the internet and cannot or have to sit there watching it take an hour to load. If you value your sanity please, look at all the comments saying this service is slow, we are not lying, do not be taken in by their shiny adverts and bright sparkly promises, you find when you actually get it all the glitter falls of and you are left with nothing but poo!!!
