Sky definitely start as they mean to go on, it took them over a month to get our broadband up and running, at almost HALF the speed they told me it would be.
My internet cuts out at least 4 times a day, we were told when we got it that it would work with xbox live, this is untrue, I have called them up as the router wasn't allowing xbox to connect to the internet with a wired connection only to be told "we do not support xbox live"!!!! Thanks for telling me when I asked BEFORE I bought it! You're also not meant to change the router as its a breach of their t&c's, all well and good if they send you a good router which they dont by the way.
I only purchased the broadband as a package with my tv as it was cheaper then having sky tv with a different provider, I wish I had spent that little bit more and gone with virgin instead.
All in all an absolutely appalling service and I cannot wait for the end of my contract..(only another 8 months to go :-()
I would definitely not recommend sky if you actually want to use the internet..

Sky obviously don't specifically 'support' Xbox live, but there's absolutely no reason why it should not work - I occasionally take my PS3 and Wii round my parents' house with Sky and have never had a problem with internet connectivity.
