As a family, we joined Demon Internet back in 1996 when it was one of the UK's first ISPs.

Back then, in the days of 56k dialup, the service was good and the connection speed was... well, comparable to other providers, at least.

Today, as I write this review, I am accessing the internet via my phone's 3G connection because the connection speed via our Demon broadband package is attrocious and, quite frankly, unusable. Today is a particularly bad day, I will admit. The connection speed is usually a little faster, but even on a good day, every video on YouTube or programme on iPlayer buffers repeatedly.

I wish I could say we lived in a rural idyl which might explain away the slow connection speed. Alas not, our exchange is just at the bottom of the road but our average connection speed is sub 1mbps. Well, well below the average.

What can I do about it? Not a lot. I know if I phone or chat to a representative on live support I am going to be speaking to someone in a faraway land who will go through the same 15 minute quiz about "checking the line", "disconnecting the router", "restarting the computer" before finally announcing that they will "open a support ticket".
"Open a support ticket" - code for "I give up. Good luck trying to fix the problem."

I wish I could name a positive experience that I've had with Demon Internet in the last few years, but there isn't one.

So why am I still with Demon Internet? Because unfortunately I and the family have numerous @hostname.demon.co.uk email addresses that we are particularly reliant on which makes it particularly difficult to simply uproot and move to another ISP.

If it wasn't for this reason, I would have left Demon a long time ago.

Just to summarise:
1) Demon Internet packages are expensive and not at all competitive
2) Demon Internet connection speeds are well below average
3) Demon Internet support is bad. I know it's bad because I dread calling them.
