lmGreenwood199's review of AA Breakdown Cover

“Female left alone for over 2 hours ”

Today I experienced an absolutely terrible service curtosey of the AA. After hearing something falling from my car followed by a horrible growling sound I pulled my car over, luckily I was near a local leisure centre car park. I called the AA at 6:10pm explaining that the sound was coming from the engine so I had to switch off (hence I was sitting with no heating on). I was initially told that a patrol would be with me by 6:55pm. At 7pm after not hearing anything I called back to be told that there had been a delay and I should have been informed (I was not). I then received a call at 7:30pm explaining that a further delay had happened. I called back at 8pm to explain that I was very cold and disappointed that I was left to wait on my own for such a long time. The operater sarcastically informed me that leisure centres tend to have coffee machines and I should go use one. Finally a patrol turned up at 8:25pm. 2 hours and 15 minutes after the first call. This is not acceptable, As a lone female in the dark, I was vulnerable and frankly quite distressed. It was my understanding that lone females were given some priority? Also why was the expected time of arrival pushed back so many times?! If it was going to take over 2 hours I should have been informed during my initial call.

I'd also like to add that tonight has been fine and dry and therefore no explanation for why the response took so long.

What makes this situation worse is following several calls to the AA back in September during which I attempted to cancel my membership (as I'd found cheaper comparable cover) I was persuaded to stay with the AA by the operater as they explained that they had more response teams, faster call out times and a better service. This it turns out is not the case.

I've been with the AA for 7 years. I will be asking for a refund!

but you were in a safe place? i was on the motorway at the weekend and they prioritised mine because i was in dangerous position. i would have happily swapped to being in a carpark with facilities for 2 hours.
