“Please choose another brand”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Edmondson404 on 19/11/2020

The boiler is noisy when starting up and running - the manual timer fitted to the 100 is also irritating due to the constant fast ticking noise. The manual timer does not allow for setting different times on different days. The boiler’s eco settings can cause the radiators to be warm even though the hall thermostat is set to the absolute minimum. Other reviews have mentioned this also happens with overriding individual radiator thermostats but I’ve not tested for this. The model has had issues in the past and they now recommend copper pipes being fitted on installation. Personally I’ve been unimpressed with this boiler since installation. I’ve given it three weeks since the install and I will now either sell the property or scrap this one and fit another brand that I’ll be happier with. The performance of the 100 for my 3 bed property is very poor. It has a 10 year guarantee of which one month has expired. The guarantee doesn’t seem to mean much and who knows how much longer Viessmann will be around as a company to honour it if required. Avoid. Don’t risk buying. If I see a Viessmann boiler fitted in a property I’m considering buying I’d factor in changing it to another model. Don’t waste time and energy on something that’s not worth the trouble.

Had this boiler fitted 5 weeks ago has gone off twice in two days and failed. The worst thing is the Engineers don't work weekends. Now British Gas they work 7 days a week and prioritise the elderly and disabled. This company can't even be polite when you finally get to speak to them three times I tried Sunday first numpty that answered asked me to hold them kindly cut me off, second time nobody answered guess he was busy having coffee third time took the details said someone would be in touch Monday another story. All in all a chap boiler fitted by a bunch of xxx as expected with German engineering overpriced rubbish!!!!!

“High cost low reliability ”

We spent over $8000 installing this boiler 5years ago, called the company for installer. 3year ago it broke down, this year it did again, changed the control panel for $2600 on January 25th, it broke down twice already. It was a bad investment and it poses a potential damage to your home.

“Viessmann Product is a lemon!; anyone wanna buy a boiler?”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 21/12/2017

we've had a Viessmann Vitodens 100 for eight years and every year it gives us problems. This year it's constantly registering F9 fault. I had my plumbing-heating contractor/installer look into this 3 times this season. He has even called Viessmann technical support and even they couldn't figure out what is wrong. I'm convinced this product is a lemon. We used to have a Burnham boiler for 20 years and never a problem, only yearly maintenance was necessary. I miss it. anyone wanna buy a used Viessmann boiler?

I have a similar problem with this model boiler starting around 3 years after installation. I am looking around at others with the same problem. Can you tell me a little more about the detail of your problem.
1. Symptoms of the problem, including fault codes,
2. how frequently does it occur,
3. was your system installed by an authorised installer,
4. Have you resolved the problem, if so how?
any other details.

written by LaineyDavis9 on 03/11/2017

We've had this boiler for nearly 9 years. First new part just after 2nd year, and even though it's serviced every year, we've had same part(bladder) renewed every two years! We have now just been quoted for a small part that has cracked so boiler leaking. The cost is over £450 plus vat and labour. So have nearly paid for this boiler twice. Time for a new one!!!

“Worst Boiler ever”

★☆☆☆☆

written by TimBamford on 04/10/2017

We have the misfortune to own veissman vitodens 100 and t is the worst thing we have ever owned, it constantly has problems from the clock not working through leaky taps and washers to simply just not working. It first really failed "Just after the warranty ran out" and that was 5 years ago, we have never had proper service out of the boiler and the company just wants to charge exorbitant call out fees to even come and look at it. Veissman are without a shadow of a doubt the worst boilers and company ever, we are going to replace it with a Worcester boiler next. It would have been nice to know nhow bad they were beforehand

“Use Viessmann Trained Techs! ”

written by Hoffman13 on 12/09/2017

I've installed over 30 of the Vitodens 100's and a few 200's (and viessman oil boilers) over the last 8 years. I have had very little installation issues or call back complaints. Recommend the low loss headers, and a quality air separator. Also check water quality and use cleaner/conditioners (authorized by Viessman) especially if this is a replacement. Setup or check combustion with quality certified equipment. Remember any product can have issues but many of my findings in the field come back to installation. Follow manufacturer recommendations and true of any brand, hire a company who has actually been to a class for the brand they are installing.

“Cracked heat exchanger”

★★☆☆☆

written by Petery997 on 25/05/2017

We have had a vitodens installed in a small 10 unit apartment. Ran fine for the first 5 years no real maintenance other then an annual service. However in the last 2 years we have had to replace the motherboard and a secondary board at a cost of cad1,000 approx. Now the stainless steel heat exchanger is cracked and obsolete so no replacement is available. The upshot is another boiler. They recommend a Vitocrossal cu3a. Sounds like a roll of the dice. Being so expensive you would expect a little more durability then the 13 years it lasted!?

Bought this boiler in 2014 based on the installers recommendation and we have had more problems with it than we had in the 10years of our old boiller. In the last 6 months , this boiler has broken down 3 times due to dirt in the system. The last time we were advised to power flush the radiators which cost about £350 but guess what, we have no hot water again! Another blockage due to dirt. Engineers really need to stop recommending this product .. our installer with years of experience is as disappointed as us.. you might have a few happy customers but overall just a scrappy piece of work .. my advise is to avoid this product!

“Avoid!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Turner467 on 10/05/2017

Had this boiler fitted and constantly had issues that at first were corrected under warranty. They then decided to void the warranty claiming it must be a fault in our system of radiators. We have spent £100's or repairs and now face a £500+ bill for a manifold. We have decided it's time to just rip it out. I'm disgusted with not only the poor quality of the boiler but also the customer services. Avoid at all costs is my advice.

Installed Jan 2008, So called state of the art, Has never completed one year without fault. Most years plumber called 2 or 3 times. Reading other reviews I see that we all suffered identical breakdowns and faults so, Viessmann, do not blame the fitters. Serviced annually only to be followed several weeks later by another breakdown. Was repaired, again, three weeks ago. This morning it has "died" again.Plumber advises " a new motherboard £500!! The most unreliable, costly item I have ever come accros. Absolute junk. DO NOT BUY.

“Failed after 6 years”

★★★☆☆

written by Helia on 09/03/2017

I'd a 5 year g/tee. Year 6 the "bladder" failed so no heating for more than a week as the part is not held in the UK & has to be imported. Will cost me well over £300 for plumber to replace. I was sold the boiler as being "state of the art" and cheap to run: but had not reckoned it would fail after 6 years. So I am very disappointed that it hasn't lived up to my expectations. Friends who have had similar combi-boilers installed have had no problems over 10 years +. My previous Potterton boiler served me well for 30 years without problem. Why is it that Viessmann has glitches after only 6 years? Not at all happy.

Had this boiler installed winter 2008 whilst building a very large extension to my property. Services new plumbed rads (8) and underfloor heating to new build and (12) old rads to existing along with heating my hot water. Never had any problems with the boiler (professionally installed, regularly serviced). My bills are very low in relation to the size of my property. No complaints only praise as its on 24/7 365.

“Not a single problem in 5 years”

★★★★★

written by 9McGuire on 03/02/2017

Had this boiler installed for my self build and have been running it for over 5 years without a single issue. It's running hot water, radiators on one floor and under floor heating on two floors. Make sure it's installed by someone truly competent and of course keep it serviced. My bills are far lower but this is probably as much due to the new house construction as to the boiler.

written by Koenl395 on 14/01/2017

Not long after moving into our property we have had our boiler break down on Christmas eve, Due to the time period we were without heating till the start of Jan. The heating and hot water just stopped. No faults came on the system and our heating engineer advised a new motherboard, which was fitted. At first it still did not work again and baffled the engineer, who did in the end get it working after several phone calls. All was well for 10 days and the fault has now came back again. So cold again.

“Reliably unreliable”

★☆☆☆☆

written by conductivity on 24/11/2016

About the only thing you can rely on is that it is going to let you down. Regularly. Repeated faults, where it just refuses to flame up - and this is definitely the boiler's fault, not the thermostat or water pressure. One frequent failure is "F5", which is reputed to be due to a flap in the air circuit sticking. The flap seems to be totally unnecessary but we are not allowed to remove it. Don't buy a Viessmann - anything else must be better.

Hi I am a viessmann specialist the model you are speaking of must be the wb1a, that means the boiler is 8 years plus. I am surprised you are getting this fault as the flap was removed or modified 6 years ago. Obviously no viessmann specialist has seen that boiler for 6 years plus. That could be more the issue.

“Viessmann Vitodens heat only boiler”

★★★★☆

written by Lardy1uk on 22/05/2016

We have installed over 100 of the Viessmann compact heat only boilers & have had one failure which was a duff combustion fan, this was dealt with promptly by Viessmanns own in house service engineer. This boiler uses there own designed & manufactures Inox-radial stainless steel heat exchanger which has a 10 year warranty. It should be noted that this heat exchanger is a "Full stainless steel" heat exchanger & not a cheaper (?) "Composite and stainless steel" heat exchanger as used by other boiler manufacturers .the boiler uses Pre-mix combustion, has an inbuilt water flow switch and can be installed with out pump "over run" meaning that the circulating pump does not need to be wired directly back to the boiler. The boiler does what it says on the tin and so far they have proved to be a very reliable boiler. How ever , yes there is always a how ever We installed one Viessmann combination boiler and tbh I am of the opinion that the engineering and build quality should be an embarrassment to any engineer or manufacturer.apart from the heat exchanger and the circulating pump head the rest is plastic and rubber. Dire imho, the question is do they actually sell this boiler model in Germany? I doubt it? i doubt that the Germans would buy it? (I am an rgi I have no connection or loyalty to any boiler manufacturer)

Yes, I agree with your above views on the materials used in the combi boilers, I did enquire about this with viessmann, prior to getting 5 boilers fitted, and they assured me as to the longevity of the components/reliability of the boilers, 5years on and no problems to report, anyway most boilers brands use the black plastic water housing, hence me purchasing viessmann, incidentally this same material has been used for over 20years in cars successfully and only cracking or leaking after 10+years , hope this helps!

Far superior than any other boiler, if you have a Viessmann installed by an accediated Viessmann installer you will be offered an extended warranty for ten years. I have had my current boiler for three years, my gas bill reduced considerably after I had it installed. It his boiler knocks the socks off my last boiler

“No problems :)”

★★★★★

written by LesterBailey on 29/04/2016

Three years ago I moved into a house with a Veissman boiler and have had no trouble with it whatsoever. It's easy to use, good controls and everything's very logical. I had the boiler checked and serviced before the winter really started - the maintenance guy gave it a thorough going over and replaced something small which didn't cost very much. The boiler has worked well again over the winter, keeping the house warm. This is a great boiler - compact so it doesn't take up laods of space and it runs efficiently without any problems. All in all, I'm very impressed with this boiler and would recommend it to others who are considering ahving a new boiler installed.

Hi. I've got a Viessmann vitodens 111-w that isn't working properly. All the indications on the boiler itself look normal, and the hot water is working, but no heat is getting to the radiators. When I first fired it up for the season last week, a few of the radiators started to get hot but then since then there's been nothing. The pressure was low so I've increased that to 1.4 bars. Any suggestions? Could it be the diverter? Thanks

Every so often the hot water will go cold in the middle of running a shower or any of the other hot water faucets in the house. The plumber that installed it has no idea what the problem is and when he came to troubleshoot the problem it did not happen when he was at the house. Has any one had this happen and if so can you offer advice?

When I had this problem, it eventually transpired that the plumber who installed my boiler had not bothered to bleed the radiators properly, so air pockets were forming in them. It is a good idea to check the Viessmann site to see who the company's accredited plumbers are in your area. Even then, you might not be lucky immediately: For me, it was third-time lucky, after six years of endless problems.

Yes I think your fan is faulty. You could call viessmann and see if they do a fixed price call or find a decent local chap, but you want someone who if it is not the fan will credit the cost back and use it on the faulty component like the pcb.

check your actual underfloor heating pipes are adequate to give the heat out if your house isn't well insulated or your pipe work undersized then that's your problem the average house needs a small boiler its the hot water on combi that need big boilers in your case its system boiler I presume this is 35 Kw that should heat a very big house with ease so as your system been balanced is the heat going to easiest radiators or pipe work so not flowing through that area , that's what good plumbers are for if its not write ask your installer to sort it if he hasn't got the knowledge get some one who can don't waste money on new boiler , try Viessmann they are fantastic ask for advice of the experts . You may need bigger boiler but I am not convinced at start . I dont waste customers money so take care jumping the gun .

Another thoroughly irritating aspect of this dreadful boiler: unhelpful or no switch signage. The tags round the timeswitch clock have to pushed OUT for ON for the time periods you want. Next there is the tiniest little tag switch at the one-o-clock position adjacent to the clock. There are no switch position signs at all on mine but the three positions of the switch are from the left: OFF - TIMER - ON. So switch it to the central position and push the clock tags out for the period you want the heating on. At least that's how mine works. Of course yours may have been modified, "improved"........

I gave up with the timer when my boiler was installed. The installer and the 5 subsequent Veissmann accredited annual service engineers were unable to set the clock or explain how to set it! I work in the computer industry and don't usually fail to master technology but this one has me beat! The timer is now over ridden and the house heating controlled by a smart thermostat which manages time and room temperature and the hot water is permanently on and controlled by a tank stat. on a well lagged tank. I would recommend the same route for you if possible. Still very pleased with this boiler it has yet to put a "foot" wrong and achieves excellent efficiency.

Don’t know the Vitrodens 111 W but do know the Vitrodens 100W (there are two types) the W is a closed system with weather compensation. In my experience the boiler is very good (see my earlier review) but you need to be really careful about the quality of your fitter. My 100W is now over 4 years old and has not put a foot wrong + I recovered the entire cost of purchase and fitting in 18 months in gas saving vs my Vintage Potterton Kingfisher. Not sure how much the weather compensation saves as I just don’t notice it but the house is always comfortable and boiler just trickles along at 60c weather it is freezing or cool outside .

I have installed approaching 280 Viessmann Vitoden boilers and can honestly say that they are one of the most reliable appliances on the market. I have installed 5 Vitoden 111 heat-store boilers and they can produce an astonishing amount of hot water (as long as the incoming mains water pressure is good enough). Go for the UTBD 2RF wireless controller - it is excellent. Of the 280 boilers fitted we have had no mechanical failures, but make sure that you use a Viessmann accredited engineer so that you can extend the warranty period to 7 years for £50…………..bargain.

My boiler loses about a bar of pressure a day with no obvious leaks. The boiler is just 2 years old, what is the problem?I read from the guide that a minimum of 1 bar is needed at all times-what happens if we are away and the system gets no pressure? Will the boiler cut out or will it fail?

This is the Achilles of the sealed system! It’s not necessarily your boiler that is losing pressure, it could be any ware in your heating system. Many of us go through life without noticing the “leak” that most wet heating systems have because there is a tank in the attic (vented system) which tops itself up. When you go to sealed \closed system where you have to top it up yourself ….. you realise you lost some level of automation. When I changed to a closed system ….having witnessed lots of friends and family who were always calling in the plumber to fill the system and me when I demonstrated how to do it themselves (they found it easier to give me a call!) I thought I would not fall in that pit! So I asked my Plummer / Heating engineer if I could have it auto top up…… apparently it contravenes water board regulations to leave your heating circuited connected to your water supply! So the options appear to be leave your header tank in (provided it can provide 1 bar of head) or break the water boards regulation (with the added chance of boiler inhibitor poisoning as it back flows in to your water system) by fitting a permanent supply loop with a pressure regulator Or watch the gauge ………. And top up as required. I’m not a plumber or a heating engineer …and would like a better legal solution to this problem myself 1 Bar a day is excessive! Suggest you feel around your pipes and rad valves for leaks something will be wet ! Or it is the heat exchanger (or valves) in your boiler that are leaking, which you probably won’t see or feel Good luck, Mark
