“Food for my dry bits”

I am a fan of Weleda and their products as I am impressed with their ethics and like the fact that they use natural ingredients from local and organic producers.

Weleda products do not come in fancy packaging; in fact they look quite ordinary. They are not cheap either but products with all natural ingredients rarely are cheap. You get what you pay for and if natural, ethical ingredients are important to you then you won’t mind paying.

Personally I prefer to pay for products like this with quality ingredients that to pay for posh branded ones that are full of chemicals and names I cannot pronounce. What I do not understand is why these products are so much cheaper in Germany than here when some of them are made here. I suspect the government taxes are one reason but I may be wrong

I have a small 10 ml tube of this Weleda Skin Food that I was given as a sample and I have also a second tube the same size bought through one of my beauty sample sites. When I look around on line I find the price varies from around £7 to £9 ish for 75ml.

As I said Weleda do not package their products in fancy packaging; this comes in a small green tube, a bit like a mini toothpaste or ointment tube. I don’t know what the full sized one looks like but I suspect it is similar. This small tube comes in an outer cardboard box, again like toothpaste does.

In order to open the tube you have to use the lid to pierce the metal seal. This makes it tamper proof and means that nothing nasty can have been added after it left the factory. This is no hard tpo do and I like the feeling of security it gives.

The cream itself is actually quite thick and a creamy colour. It smells like a fresh herb sort of bergamot orange with other herbs; a combination of those used in the product such as chamomile, calendula and lavender. I like the smell. It isn’t sweet and feminine at all, in fact it is clean and fresh, slightly masculine and a bit like some ointments.

I have only used this on my elbows, hands and as a special treat and in the interests of reviewing I gave my feet a treat too. I find it is really good for hands and elbows. My feet enjoyed theri treat too. The cream is quite thick and feels quite intense but once massaged in my elbows felt nice and well fed but not greasy at all. My hands also felt lovely and soft and smooth and i was able to read on my tablet soon after applying as there was no slippery greasy feel.

I was also very kind and allowed my husband to use some of his hands as they get very dry and cracked with eczema. This and the Body Shop hemp hand cream both helped a lot with healing them. he is not very good at regularly applying creams on his hands and that is why they get so bad.

The scent lingers for quite some time and as I like the smell, I can work on the laptop and enjoy the scent on my hands as I type.

This lovely intense cream is full of natural goodies Water, Sunflower Seed Oil, Lanolin, Sweet Almond Oil, Alcohol, Beeswax, Glyceryl Linoleate, Hydrolyzed Beeswax, Viola Tricolor Extract, Rosemary Leaf Extract, Chamomilla Recutita Flower Extract, Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract, Cholesterol, Limonene, Linalool, Geraniol, Citral and Coumarin*. The vast majority of the ingredients are of natural origins.

It reminds me in texture of Body Shop hand cream, the Hemp one. It is similarly thick and feels similar in texture. As it is so thick and intense you need only a little for the moisturising benefits to take effect.
I have been a fan of Weleda for some time and am yet to find a product that I do not like. They are not the cheapest option around , especially if you buy them in the UK but I do think they are good quality products produced using ethically sourced ingredients.

Weleda's ingredients are in fact 100% natural, and that has been independently certified by the international standard NATRUE which sets the highest standards for naturalness in the world. I have contacted the company for this information.
