“Pomegranate for my skin”

I was recently lucky enough to be sent several sample sized packs of their products from Weleda and this was one of those in the package.

I first came across Weleda when I came back to the UK from Australia. I used their homoeopathic medicines as I had been using similar products in Australia. I had several 'alternative' friends in Australia and one was a homoeopathic healer

I didn't really know about their beauty and body products until a couple of years ago when I started to buy samples from various beauty sites on line. I probably would not have chosen them in a shop as their packaging is rather plain looking and rather more like a medicine or ointment found in a chemist than a beauty product.

Weleda was originally a German company founded by the education philosopher and founder of the Steiner schools, Rudolph Steiner. Today there are factories in other countries including one not far from us in Derbyshire. I like their philosophy and ethics and have grown to like their products too.

Weleda use natural ingredients sourced from ethical sources and their products have not been tested on animals and contain no parabens or SLS type ingredients either. I have it on authority from Weleda directly that;”Weleda's ingredients are in fact 100% natural, and that has been independently certified by the international standard NATRUE which sets the highest standards for naturalness in the world. “

This product is part of their pomegranate range and is a body lotion. It comes in plastic recyclable bottle which is in a cardboard box. It doesn't look high end at all from the outside but once you try it you will find it is a really quality product. My sample came in a small tube but the contents are the same.

The body lotion comes in a bottle holding 200ml at a price of around £20 depending on where you buy it. It is far from being the cheapest body lotion around and I do feel that the packaging lets this down as it doesn't look a high end product yet it is a high end price. I know that Weleda put the effort and money into the product rather than the packaging but it doesn't look like a £20 body lotion in my view.

Weleda state that they have put this into a “new uniquely shaped award winning bottle is an airless bag-in-bottle system with pump dispenser.” My sample came in a tube so I can't say whether this system is effective or not.

The cream is quite thick but not as thick as a toothpaste but slightly thicker than baby lotion. It smells really lovely, fresh and slightly fruity with a hint of herb too. I found that it was very quickly absorbed in my skin and left it feeling pleasantly moisturised with no damp feeling or greasy feel at all. My skin smelled lovely and the smell lasted a good few hours as I could smell it on my arms for some time after I applied it.

This body lotion is part of the range aimed at ageing or mature skins which I fit sadly. This is designed to help reduce signs of ageing but in the short time I used my sample I can't say I noticed any reduction in my skin ageing.

The ingredients that are key to this anti ageing which are in this body lotion are Pomegranate seed oil, Apricot kernel oil and Shea butter all of which help to stimulate cell renewal and at the same time they help to protects skin from damage from the environment.

The body lotion is meant to moisturise and also help to firm up the skin and make it more radiant. I can't say I noticed either of the latter in the short time my sample lasted.

Weleda state; “Dermatological tests shown that after 4 week of usage: cell renewal increased by 39%*; 86% of people confirmed skin was left velvety smooth; 62% confirmed skin felt noticeably firmer. “
