I had to use WordPress to build a site at work; my experience was so excellent that I moved the rest of my company’s domains over so the rest of our sites would look as good. For blogging, it’s free, simple, and allows some customization. For professional sites, I have tried a number of other site-builders, and WordPress is the easiest and most customizable site I've found. “Poor (non) Domain Registrar ”

Firstly although Wordpress.com will sell you a domain or say you can move it to them they are not actually a domain registrar and will in fact register your domain with a third party (Automattic) which is a major cause of the many difficulties & headaches you will get trying to manage the domain. I previously had a Blogger account that lay dormant for years until I recently decided to start blogging again in earnest. I chose Wordpress as a friend recommended I give it a try. I think there are plenty of great looking templates to choose from and the dashboard is simple to use.
