“4 months and still no bike”

I ordered a bike for my son in June, it was an insurance replacement as we were broken into and our bikes were stolen. I was told it would be in stock in mid July. July came and went and I heard nothing from Wheelies. I contacted them to be told it would be end of August. August came and went. I called them again and was told mid-September and then end of September and now end of October. I have made a formal complaint but no one ever gets back to you. They seriously are the worst company I've ever dealt with - just awful. Do not use. Tell your insurance company no way!

“Parts required they didnt even reply to 3 emails”

Wheelies were more than happy to oblige when we bought our 2 new replacement bikes from them totalling over 3k after our bikes had been stolen and we received our insurance claim funds. The service was very good but when we tried to replace a broken part they couldn't even be bothered to get back to us after 3 emails. Resend, resend.....so while the service was good when we have big bucks to spend this was very disappointing.

Very fast efficient service. Couldn't have been more help. Fair valuation of bikes and voucher for Halfords sent by the end of the day. Was sent the wrong voucher at first but was corrected immediately after a 2 min phone call. Halfords were brilliant too. Helped pick new bikes,very knowledgeable, helpful staff. Very happy customer here, which having just had 2 bikes stolen made the whole experience that little bit more bearable. Many thanks.

“Unusable Halfords voucher”

Received a Halfords voucher by email. The exact bike I had previously is not available, not even to order for collection. So I ordered the closest thing, which would have been fine. I ordered on a Tuesday for collection Saturday afternoon - sooner nor home delivery available. Store did not contact me Saturday and I could not get through by phone, so had to go in person, not a particularly local store, to find out it’s not in yet. Three days later and Halfords customer service can only say that there is a delay and the store will contact me when it’s arrived ... it’s now been 3 weeks since my bike was stolen and I feel no closer to having a bike than when I was reporting the theft at the police station.

“Average service”

Broadly OK, but don't seem that interested in insurance claims as they 'have' the business. They have a decent range of bikes but weren't that interested in helping get the right bike. Some of the staff seemed slightly annoyed to have to answer questions and were not very patient.

“Hours on phone instead of cycling”

I am losing track of errors / system irregularities/ problems ( each Wheelie person likes to call them something different. Basically Wheelie have messed up numerous times. Summer is going passed and today they start a new order and say I’ll get the bike in three weeks. I’m taking bets against. Will have to buy a temporary bike for this summer.

“The website description of the bicycles on sale is...”

The website description of the bicycles on sale is insufficient and faulty: For my chosen bike there was no indication of the bike’s weight, and it turns out that the frame is a lot heftier than expected. Not dramatic but not what I would have chosen, had I known. Next, the bike was shown on the website as “available” but half a week after ordering it I received a notice that my bike had finally been ordered and would arrive in their shop (!) one week hence, and thus on my door steps around two weeks after the order date (*). Furthermore, the bike description incorrectly claimed the bike would come without pedals, which caused me to purchase an unnecessary extra pair of pedals. The return of that item has not yet been acknowledged two weeks after arriving back at Wheelies, and no refund has been issued. Which leads me to the next glaring problem: Communication is poor. Email inquiries go unanswered for weeks, and phone calls are not answered within an acceptable delay during business hours: After being kept on hold for ages I gave up. The whole initial communication, including the appraisal of my old bike’s value for replacement, happened via phone (them calling me), meaning that (1) I have no record of that communication, and (2) I was compelled to enter a contract (and permit a transfer for the insurance excess) on the phone, which I generally refuse out of principle. At the time I only did so to avoid further hassle. Lastly, the bike arrived with mudguards unattached, and the assembly required specialist equipment and had to be performed in a garage because the bike’s front break cable ran around the outside rather than the inside of the fork, and had to be rerouted to get out of the way of the mudguard stays. (*) This review is receiving two stars instead of one purely because after complaining about this delay I finally managed to communicate with somebody at Wheelies and was able to amend my order to a different colour bike of the same model which they had in stock, thus shortening the delay from two weeks to one and a half week.

“Can't buy what I want...”

I was not too happy that the insurance policy did not give me a choice where to spend my money and I was forced to go with someone online who has no local branches. However, that is just where the problems started. They do not sell Trek, a make that I am familiar and happy with. A lot of the makes they sell, I just do not know. Anyway, I chose a Bianchi cycle that looked reasonable and was told by the rep I dealt with that they did not have it in my size. He recommended a Specialized bike (£75 dearer) and said this was similar in specifications. I was prepared to accept this recommendation and ordered it online. I now get a message from sales, telling me that the items I ordered are slightly delayed from the supplier and could I wait until August 2nd. This is hardly a slight delay! Why was the bike recommended to me, when it was not in stock. I have looked at the alternatives on the site, and can not see one I like of similar specs at a price I am happy with.

“Badly set up.”

The bike came with a set of toe-clip pedals which was generous but the gears are badly set up - I believe the term is indexing. When the lowest gear is selected, the derailleur shifts the chain in between the rear cogs and the wheel protector and jams. Second lowest gear slips like a broken Sturmey Archer from the old days. I am having to pay my local dealer to set the bike up properly. I thought the days of standing by the roadside grappling with a greasy chain were gone!

“Poor selection, poor delivery service”

After having my bike stolen the insurance company told me I had to select a bike from wheelies. When I looked for a replacement bike I felt the selection was very limited, with a lot of makes I've never heard of. I finally found a bike to have (or lose out and have nothing). When I went to select a size wheelies recommends sizes in CMS, but the bike is sold in S/M/L so had to look at others websites to find correct size After ordering bike had an email stating delivery date via DHL, after taking a day of work for the delivery DHL now say they will deliver tomorrow.

“Replacement for Stolen Bike”

Wheelies were acting on behalf of my insurance company who authorised a replacement e-bike. They were quick and efficient. The range of bikes to chose from was substantial and the replacement bike was delivered promptly.. I was telephoned by the staff on several occasions to follow up my case and would be able to recommend them if asked by my friends.

The bike hasn't arrived yet, hopefully it will be fine. But after insurance finally sorted me out with the voucher and I ordered the bike, the delivery date they offered is 10 working days after the order date. They told me over the phone it would be arriving Thursday and dispatched hopefully Friday, I've chased them up Monday and they say the next available delivery slot is next Friday. Had I been told this from the start I wouldn't have returned the bike I borrowed as I'll now have to get bus/taxi for another week. Inconvenient when bicycle is your method of transport.
