“Why so expensive?”

I really enjoy Beck's Blue as a drink, especially as I choose not to drink alcohol at the moment. It is quite embarrassing to ask a friend to buy you a drink when it is so expensive in a Pub or restaurant. In supermarkets the price varies, but I have located it in more than one for less than 50p per bottle. Why do breweries ask such a mark up, as surely they should be encouraging people to drink less alcohol and should be making it easier for drivers looking for a tasty alternative to the real thing.
