“Mattress disintegrating after 2 years”

Bought bed & mattress May 2014. Initially pleased with bed. Because of mattress exchange problem I ended up having to buy a second mattress. This cost me £273. Today when taking the cover off to wash it I found that the centre of the mattress (where it folds) has started to disintegrate. Apparently there is only a 12 month guarantee on them so I'm stuffed. I visited Laybrook in Biscester two and a half weeks ago and ordered a bed at £2000 after a careful demonstration by a salesman who did not hard - sell. A similar bed from a company which has salesmen visiting you at home quoted £6000... and yes, the specification was very similar. Delivery was quoted at approx three weeks. “Don't believe the money back guarantee clause”

We ordered an electric turning bed for my 88 year old mother and were told that the way to do it was to rent the bed for 4 weeks at a cost of £1800 and then decide whether to return the bed or to keep it on payment of the balance. We were told that the 7 day money back guarantee would still apply. At Laybrook we always appreciate customer feed back when accurate. We offer all our customers the opportunity to a home demonstration, we will take the turning bed to your property so the customer get the opportunity to try the bed to make sure its suitable. We did offer you a home visit which you refused? The sales team will also explain in detail that we only offer the turning bed on rental basis for the first month, if you are happy with the bed we will take rental cost off the total price. You are given a contact which also states this which you said you misplaced? We are very sorry your mother was not happy with the turning bed and we would be happy to supply another bed at a discounted price. It does state on our web site that there is a collection charge only on our turning bed, and we do offer a 7-day trial on the mattresses. We want our customer to be happy with our products, we understand how difficult it is when dealing with medical issue and trying to deal with family members who are not well, we endeavour to make you experience as easy and as stress free as possible,

Home visit? Refused? First I've heard of it was in your over-long electronic correspondence denying that there ever was a 7 day money-back guarantee in spite of the 7 day money back guarantee being clearly outlined on your terms and conditions on the invoice paid. This was protracted over a 4 month period causing frustration and aggravation especially to my 88 year old mother in law suffering from diabetes and Parkinson's disease. I ordered the bed by telephone from Scotland and spoke to you personally. Home Visit was not mentioned. The "home visit" in Scotland occurred a month later and consisted of two delivery men with tools and Invoice and a bed unsuitable for my mother in laws small frame. C3 days later we confirmed by telephone and by letter. The fact is that the bed was not suitable being too high at its lowest adjustable point for my mother in law to use it safely, a fact endorsed by her Carers. The fact is that it took to the middle of January to get back £1,247 of the £1800 deposit paid for the bed in August last in spite of your infamous "7 day money back guarantee" . The fact remains that it is iniquitous to treat frail elderly people in this manner. Cecily Ranger

We have just received delivery of a new adjustable Hestercombe bed and I feel I've got to let people know how delighted we are with the service we have received. The delivery guy worked so hard getting the bed upstairs due to awkward access but the hard work was definitely worth it because my dad now has a very sturdy comfortable and good looking adjustable bed with memory foam mattress. It's getting on for 3 months now since we got the bed and dad is still pleased with it and it seems unfortunately you must be unlucky with your bed because we have found ours to be very good quality and have been happy with our purchase.

Laybrooks offer a 7 day money back guarantee. If you order what they call a special order then this guarantee will not apply. If for example you order a Divan bed with a drawer Laybrook classes this as a special order. The memory foam mattress is thinner than a normal mattress and barely hides the feel of the framework underneath. I ordered an Hesticombe bed through the advisor on 12th July and asked for delivery on 8th August. The bed arrived as planned and the guys that installed it were very pleasant and it took them about 35 minutes to put it together and they were very tidy. Service was excellent pre sale. Once my deposit was taken the service stopped. Staff promised 2 to 3 weeks for delivery. They knew I have a spinal condition & after 4 weeks I warned them we were running out of time as I have a major spinal surgery booked in a few weeks time. laybrook are based in Bicester, Oxfordshire and make the beds on site from standard parts. I have an unused Laybrook double bed cost £3000. My wife died before using it. They refuse to take it back.

About 3 years ago we approached the company with a general enquiry regards electrically operated beds. We were referred too a comprehensive truly detailed description on the internet. As a tetraplegic, it took a few days to adapt to the new bed and mattress but now that I have been using it for a few months I find it very comfortable and its range of adjustability (both head and feet) has really helped my circulation. Laybrook can only apologise for the error on the email sent to you when you ordered a brochure online. This was an automatically generated email handled by our IT people. Due to new landfill regulations we now have to make a small charge for your old bed to be taken away. We have asked our IT team to correct this error as soon as possible.
