I invested some money in shares 1 year ago. I received a statement showing I had made a profit and was being charged income tax on it, I am a pensioner and don't have enough income to pay tax. I went into the local branch and nobody was able to help. From there it went even further downhill - waiting in for phone calls that never came, being fobbed off and sent from one person to another - one branch to another - again promises of phone calls that never came. Back in the branch it was one excuse after another - they're busy - they're on the road. I don't care if they're on the moon I want the promised phone call and an explanation. Eventually i was told that everyone is charged tax and have to reclaim it themselves ( I should have been told this when I invested the money) and I should have received a form - which I have not. I telephoned the Inland Revenue for a form and after half an hour holding on, gave up. I phoned Santander for a value on my shares and they were extemely helpful in Scotland where they deal with it. A week has passed since I started this charade and enough is enough, I've made a fair bit of money on them in the year and am selling - Goodbye Santander I would not recommend to to anyone.
