“A bank that now wants to shed (or sh*ft) retail customers”

It's fairly evident now that HSBC and most of the big 4 (who can no longer use retail banking customer funds to gamble on the investment market and then expect governments to bail them out) have decided that retail customers are not for them. I've seen a dramatic drop in the level of customer service over the last few yrs. Email them, no response - but call them. Want issues resolved, you have to chase them up - or you get a generic customer service email. Unless you want to deposit large sums of money (which there is a money charge) - they don't seem interested in your account. The loss of large numbers of experienced staff mean, and sweat shop call centres to sell you products that make HSBC money means the focus is away from customer service. I used HSBC as I thought they were a truly international bank and was willing to accept charges for the service. However they take months to process anything. With money transfers, money goes missing for days - and there is no one you can speak to who knows what's going on. My advice. Go local wherever you are. Expect this is the new face of banking. Keep it simple and accept international banking no longer is available (unless you are arms manufacturer, dictator, a government)
