I have a lovely friendly little out of town branch along the road from my home, but sadly They close before I get home from work. In Maidstone Town centre we had 2 branches staffed by excellent staff. I agree that one was too big for the demand now, but the other was just right. Barclays have closed both and we now have a small barclays in Fremlins Walk just rows of machines with no cashiers and cash desks except for one for international business and foreign exchange only. I am elderly & needed help to use a machine to tranfer money between accounts & am not able to use internet banking. There were customer service advisors at the front, but there was only one floor walker helping with the machines i needed to use and he disappeared.
I therefore asked the girl at the interantional desk if she would deal with me. She was not busy although she looked very put out, but did do the transfer at her desk. I said it was a sad time for old people when they could no longer deal with a cashier. She said this system was what people want now & everyone was happy about it. I said are you saying that you will not help in future. She said yes thats right you have to use the machines. I said are you saying that if I don't like it I can take my custom elsewhere. She said yes because this was the way banking was now going. What a shame this is and how rude of her.
