“Do Anything You Can No To Bank With These People...”

The issues with this bank are endless. The concept itself is great, I am admittedly terrible at budgeting and so the idea that the bank holds back income to make sure that my bills are covered was an appealing one. The reality of the situation is that the bank seem to feel that their customers are all people with debt problems who are unable to go elsewhere and so treat them contempt. I think I've finally had enough and have opened another bank account with HSBC. The problems with Think Money are myriad. Firstly I've never waited for less than 30 minutes to speak to somebody, and I'm PAYING to sit on hold for between 30 and 60 minutes each time. I had my bank card cancelled for absolutely no reason, even when I called up the employee on the other end seemed as baffled as I was. I was told I would be sent a replacement card and pin. The pin never materialised and the card turned up 6 WEEKS LATER. The problems with the app and website are more or less constant. This weekend they both stopped working on Thursday and it's only been today (Monday) that I've been able to get online and move all my money from my Think Account to my HSBC one because I STILL haven't received a pin for their bank card. My rent payment for this month, which should have gone out while they were having problems with the website hasn't been taken and it's a standing order that I have set up to go out every month. I've had my card blocked repeatedly while on holiday despite my telling them that I would be away. One time I was in Las Vegas and I was supposed to check out on a Sunday and fly home, but Think Money blocked my card. I tried to call them so that they could unblock my card as I needed to pay my hotel bill or I wouldn't be able to leave and catch my flight but they were closed. The next day was a bank holiday too so they were unavailable until the Tuesday. I ended up having to transfer money into an American friend's account and get her to pay my hotel bill. Had I not had a friend living in Vegas, I would have been stuck and forced to stay until I could pay my bill. Complaints don't seem to work. Their staff are always very friendly when you finally get through to them but it's just such a shoddily run operation. Avoid unless you have absolutely no other options.

Hi,

We are sorry that you feel this way.

As you rightly say the thinkmoney account is designed for people who aren’t great at budgeting. Whilst we did struggle with high call volumes, and as a result longer than acceptable call wait times, after our upgrade last year, we are now heading back to the service levels we aim to provide – where there is little or no wait to get through to us on the phone for the majority of the day.

It is very unusual for us to cancel a card – in most cases, in the event of our fraud prevention system detecting a suspicious transaction we will text you to ask you to text back to confirm that it is you that made it. New cards are generally received within about 5 days of being ordered. If you are registered for our PIN by text service you don’t need to wait to get your PIN in the post – we can text it to you.

Thank you for your custom.
