I've used the free version of Avira for a couple of years until they gave me a KEY to upgrade to internet security which encompasses a Avira firewall.
Their firewall can't be deactivated for good, it has to be deactivated every time you start the PC. If you don't deactivate it you will get a BLUESCREEN whenever you hibernate or even sometimes when suspending.
Windows restarts from scratch and you loose all your work.
After contacting Avira they seemed to reduce it but the problem is still there.

actually is can be deactivated, go to add/remove items, or where ever you go to uninstall a program, and click avira, on the top instead of uninstall click change, go through the install steps as when you installed avira, but do the custom route, when you get to the components you want, de-select the firewall, continue as normal, and when its all done, the fire walls gone, then just turn on windows firewall.
