I have had three Olympus MJU II Zoom 80 cameras in the last year (two as replacements), all of which have let in light through the rubber seal around the lens barrel. This doesn't appear in all photographs, but spoils several per film, appearing as a diagonal whitish line across the bottom left corner and sometimes up the left side.

Olympus let slip that several other people had complained about the same problem, but they say it is the users fault, claiming that people try to close the sliding lens cover too fast and this tears the seal. This was despite the fact the fault was visible in the first photographs taken with the camera.

It's a shame Olympus blame the customers rather than dealing with the problem, it's put me off buying another Olympus camera. I had used various Olympus compact cameras with sliding lens covers for at least the past 10 years, and had been very happy with them. I liked the results they produced and the fact they were weatherproof and fairly rugged.

I believe that the Zoom 80 has a design fault which Olympus are trying to ignore and until they rectify it I would advise other people against buying this model. I have no idea if this problem also occurs with the other MJU Zoom cameras in the range. I know it doesn't apply to the MJU II, which doesn't have a zoom lens, and which seems to produce good results.
