Business Class round-trip LAX-MUC on A346 and IAD-FRA on 747-400. Flights on-time both ways. Checked-in via kiosk both ways without issue. LAX Star Alliance Business Lounge had nice selection of food and drink. FRA Business lounge had nice views and good food. As for in-flight meals, LAX-MUC was weak overall, with boring appetizers, very good entree (salmon), and extremely cheap dessert (a small tub of ice cream and a couple pieces of cheese if desired). Cabin was warm and stuffy throughout flight. Overall, LH 418 FRA-IAD was better, except aircraft was downgraded from 748 to 744 with no advanced notice. Not only did it mean a much older aircraft, but also a downgrade from the new lie-flat seats to angle-flat seats in Business Class. I had specifically booked this flight to experience the new lie-flat seats, so I was very disappointed. No compensation provided. The angle-flat seats were not comfortable for sleeping and some of the trim was peeling off. The sound on the IFE didn't work properly, either. PTVs worked well, and screen was of decent size, but IFE selection was weak compared to most transatlantic carriers. Food on FRA-IAD was considerably better, with better selection of appetizers, better entrees, and real dessert. Almost like flying a different airline. Flight attendant service was excellent both ways. Very friendly and attentive. Wine selection was good, as was beer. Would be happy to fly LH again in Business Class once more aircraft offer the new product.
